Does anyone know how long a hogged ponies mane will take to grow back?

Last winter half of my pony's mane was rubbed out by her neck rug as she was fully clipped and needed it to keep warm.
This winter I'm only going to give her a bib clip so can leave her neck off.
Her mane has gown back to nearly the length of the other half but it is so thin and weak, so I was thinking about hogging all/half of her mane off in the hope that it would grow back thicker and stronger.
Although I'm worried that it won't grow back/will take a long time to grow back and I need enough to plait for spring next year.
So was just wondering if anyone has done similar to this or has had a hogged pony and grown the mane back.
Thanks.

Once you've hogged its hogged for ages - it grows back like a zebra mane and will be even harder to plait... Unless you really want a hogged mane I would avoid it like anything.

I'd just keep pulling the thin wispy bits you have growing now, along with the normal mane, over the winter, more often and shorter than you normally would (especially if you don't have to plait) and let it even out. It should be fine by spring.

It probably depends on the individual/time of year, but from my experience:

Eight months for the mane to reach the point at which it starts to go over, then another six months before it lies flat but is still only about 6" long, then another year for it to get to about 12", then a further year to achieve full length

this is for a gypsy type pony

I have two that have been hogged on and off thru their lives. The one that has a wispy mane still has a wipsy mane after hogging (wasn't thin before wearing neck rugs) and her grew back within about 6 months.

The other horse has a very thick mane that was always that way, and she's been hogged a few times over the years. It always grows back just as thick and take about 6 months as well.

I think that when the mane gets rubbed out by the neck cover, it never seem to be the same again.

My horse is hogged and it needs to be done every 2 weeks, my friend who has a happy hacker decided to turn him into a cob and hogged him, well he looked like a girraffe so she decided to let it grow back, it grew back looking worse then it did before. If you want her mane to grow nice i have heard that massaging the base gently with a small ammount of baby oil works? iv not tried this tho but it sort of makes sence as it will stimulate the hair into producing healthy oil ect and will soften the skin.

I wouldn't hog it now if you want a nice mane to plait inthe spring, just leave it, pull the weak stuff to incourage it to get stronger.

I have hogged my horse as he had an awlful mane, he isn't being clipped this winter so i am letting him have his mane (will be taken off in the sping again) he hasn't had it done since end of July and it is now stuck straight up in the air and looks to have no intention of falling over yet.
