Hi,

I recently bought an old trailer, here is the link for it (as cant work out how to get the pictures off) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....5684062&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_500wt_898

I am slightly worried that i may have made a mistake buying it. There is no serial number, no vin plate and the internal measurements certainly dont seem like they could house 2x 17hh horses!.

I'm hoping that you guys may know some info on the make/model of this trailer and any other info such as unladen weight, payload etc. Please.

Thanks in advance

The ad states it is a Rice Richardson Trailer - they are a very good make. I like the full length partitions too - much safer if travelling 2 imo. :)

I have searched photos of other rice trailers and cant find a match. Also the ad states it carries 2x 17hh horses but the internal height is 2.1m and the overall internal width is only 5ft which is way to small IMO.

I have emailed Rice Richardson but i'm just impatient and wondered if anyone else could shed some light.

I think it's an old Richardson, before they bought Rice :) The old ones are narrow I'm afraid, mine is 5'6'' wide and I have adjusted it to carry just one horse. 2.1m is 7ft, which ain't big enough for a 17hh horse, I'm afraid.

I didn't think it would be big enough for a 17hh horse. I was going to adapt it so that i just carries one horse/pony.

Does anyone know what the deal is with legally towing without a vin plate and serial number? I was under the impression it didn't matter if the trailer was made before a certain year.

I wouldn't worry, this trailer looks so old it is nearly an antique!

Do get somebody to have a good look over it before you put any horses in there

: ( wasn't intending on buying an antique.

My boyfriend has checked the frame work and chasis which is very good and solid. We have ripped out the floor and sides to replace with new. So should be ok.

Nothin wrong with old/antique trailers....they are built to last.Much stronger than the new ones. The only down side are they are heavier!

I'm glad that i can get excited about it now then. I can't wait until we've finished doing it up. You wont recognise it : )

Looks very similar to mine, although my towing hitch sticks out a lot more than yours, but the body work looks very similar. Mine also does not have a make, model or plate anyway on it. I can defo carry two in mine tho as it's HUGE!!:D And yes it weighs a flaming tonne, which makes hitching up an exact science!! No dragging it slightly left or right for me!!

So sorry can't be much help but the oldies are the goodies, like hunting mad said, built to last.:)

Out of interest what are the weights of yours please? Unladen/payload/MAM

I think mine is quite light but waiting til its all finished before taking it a weighbridge.

Sorry I don't know, I've never taken it to a weighbridge. But I reckon it's really heavy, even my husband (and he's by no means small) struggles to move it half an inch if we don't line the tow ball up straight.
