Does anyone know much about birds?

I went to untie a haynet that had been in the shelter a week or so and still had some hay in it.

A little bird flew out of it and turns out there was a little nest in there but no eggs yet.

I tied it back up in the same position I think it was. Will she go back?

If that's a small holed net the bird must be very small. I wonder if it's a wren? If so they make a real racket when alarmed, surprisingly loud for such a tiny bird. If is is a wren then I think they (or the male anyway) build several nests so the female can choose her preferred des res. In which case the bird will have more nests to choose from, no harm done.

It was either a wren or a sparrow I think. There was another nest in there too as I saw a couple come out of that area. They weren't vocal though.

Sounds more like a wren. They do like to pick random places. I’m always very wary of moving rugs at this time of year as i’ve found a nest in one hanging in the stable before.
Oh gosh! I'll be more vigilant touching anything for now then. Hopefully I didn't disturb it too much. The nest was intact still.

Whichever bird it is, they often stay in that particular shelter through the winter too. Usually only the one, sometimes two.

I disturbed a nest earlier this year that the robins had built on the narrow shelf between some hanging rugs and the wall of the stable. I was about to take the rugs down to take them away to wash and store. Once I realised, I left the rugs and the nest - but they didn’t come back 😕 it was a pretty crap place for a nest really tbh, hope they went and made one somewhere safer.

It's a wrens nest, the male makes several in different locations & the female chooses which one to use. It maybe the nest isn't being used so not to worry. I have quite a few wrens in my yard and they often make nests in haynets/ head collars etc
Thank you. That's really interesting!

The nest has changed compared to how I had left it, can't see any sort of hole now, it's like they've filled it in. No one has come flying out of it though so not sure but I feel a bit better knowing they make a few to choose from!
