Hiya - just bought a Cleveland Bay x Trakehner filly foal - the Cleveland Bay side is by Wigginton Antonio and the Trakehner side is by Muschamp Danube - anyone got any info on these two stallions so I can get a better idea of what I have??

Also she has some Classic Touch in her - but wanted to find out if this was the famous Classic Touch or other - does anyone have any ideas of where I could look??

Thanks
Ems

Wigginton Antonia used to stand in Co Durham, with a Mrs Nichol I think. I also think he was the winner, a few times of the Cleveland Bay Society Stallion award, was it the King George Cup?

I did see him once, he was about 17hh but have never seen anything by him, hope that helps!!!

Colin Green, Tregoyd cleveland bays is president of CBHS. if you google Tregoyd cleveland Bays you will be able to email him. He is a fountain of knowledge as he has been a breeder for 20 years.

King George V greatly admired the Cleveland Bay and each year his cup is awarded to the best stallion for that year.

At this year's Great Yorkshire Show a special presentation of CB who compete in various disciplines was made for her Majesty Queen Elaizabeth II, who was in attendance. Her Majesty is patron of CBHS and breeds Cleveland Bays. You will be able to see some photos and the cup on the CBHS website.

The Cleveland Bay stud book has been closed since 1884. Your Trakehner is also from a long and pure blood line. I hope you have a photo of your foal it would be delightful to see the result. of two ancient and pure blood lines.

best wishes

Thank you sooo so much for all this info - its amazing what people know on here. Really appreciate all your messages. Great to know my new little girl has got some great blood in her - cant wait to get her going. Will definitely post some photos as soon as I have some good ones - have a small one on my signature - but its not the best - and she has grown since then. Thank you all Emma

Wow - she is gorgeous - I hope that 'Hope' turns out half as beautiful. Very quick developers - wow thats scary - do you have to watch over feeding them?? I was told by a lady that you have to watch their joints - is that true?? Em

I agree lovely looking horse. Forest Superman again on your pedigree!!
What will you do with your CB's re competition?

Not sure which problem your lady meant. Over feeding with hard feed can cause horses of all breeds to grow too fast which can cause OCD.

If she meant specifically CB then because the CB has a lot of bone they are prone to capped hocks - ugly to look at but not clinically significant. The way to avoid this is to make sure they have plenty of bedding or lay rubber mats.

I used to know Muschamp Danube a bit cos my first stallion stood alongside him at Muschamp Stud for a while.

Oh hang on - I might be mis-remembering and it might have been a son of Danube who was there at the time, not Danube himself - sorry, memory a bit hazy!

The Muschamp horses were all really nice, though. Very athletic and good-natured.

Hi

Muschamp Danube is the sire of Fleetwater Opposition and many other quality Trakehner horses, some part of Karen Bassetts drving team I think too as Muschamp provided a lot of her horses. Muschamp Korsakof is also by Muschamp Danube. If you would like more info you could contact Janet Lorch who owns the Muschamp Stud. Janet has now moved to France with all the horses except Muschamp Korsakof whom we are standing in the UK. The website link is

If you would like me to find out a bit more for you I can speak to Janet but she is a lovely lady who loves to hear of her horses. She would like to hear rom you Im sure.

We seem to know a lot of the same horses - your stallion wasn't a little grey Arab was he?

I worked at the Muschamp Stud for a while, with Korsakoff, who was a son of Danube, and was a lovely, well mannered, beautifully put together stallion, who threw super foals, and Maestro - who was wonderful, if a bit more challenging to deal with during the season. He was very passionate about his ladies, and had a bit of a crush on the cattle grazing on the common, I seem to remember!

Wigginton Antonio was a super stamp of a cleveland. Never saw him myself bu have seen many photos of him in fact i was sent one yesterday. He was a great mover with plenty of bone an won the KGV cup on many occassions. I know a part bred by him who is also a super mover.
You are very lucky to have a horse related to this lovely stallion

Bruce Rock is by Wigginton Antonio. He was on the waiting list for Badminton but injured himself so was unable to compete. He was then retired from eventing but as far as I know is still hunting.
