I've been offered a house exchange there. Does anyone know what its like? Can you recommend any livery yards in the area or farmers that have stables to rent?
Thanks x

I live near South Molton (about 15 miles away) and Isme on here actually lives there I think.

Nice enough town (good saddlers!), large Mole Valley Farmers and I think Morrisons are about to develop in the market.

West Down Stud is just on the outskirts and about to be sold but they have lovely stables, a gallops etc - new owners may take liveries. Its a horsey area and lots of ads for livery and stables in the tack shop and MVF

I second Westdown Stud facilities, we know Paul who has just sold it. Can find out for you if you want us to weather it is going to be a livery yard, but a supurb place. If not I can ask Paul if he is going to do livery's at his new place. Please Pm me if you need more details.

South moltons lovely, i used to live just out of it - in north molton.
Oh how i wish we had a mole valley farmers where i live now!
Theres loads of yards on the outskirts.. i cant remember precisely where as i didnt have horses when i lived there.. but i can reccommend Stitchpool Livery Yard just out of north molton!!!

ETA: im very very jealous of your impending house exchange.. i wish i was able to move back there soon!! looks like i'll be waiting longer than planned

Ravenwood the house is right opposite the market from what I can see on the map. Not sure if that is North part or not

It's nothing definate yet I had a phone call about it this afternoon and the guy seems very keen on my place and is coming up to have a look on Monday then all being well I will go down and have a look next weekend.
I don't know the area at all so just thought I would get a few ideas on what the area was like and the stabling situation.

I work in South Molton and live about 12 miles away from it. It is a nice rural town with a very good secondary school (where I work!). There are several livery yards around, some on the edge of Exmoor with great hacking. It depends how close you want to keep your horse and what facilities you want. The local saddlers (Acorn) oe Mole Valley Framers have notice boards which probably have livery details.

The market is central to the town and there are plans to move it and develop the area. There is currently a swimming pool there and a huge carpark and lorry park.

Acorn Saddlery is in the town also and they have loads of ads in the entrance, there are usually some for livery

I wonder if the house is on the opposite side of the market on the way to Somerfield?

Its a very old fashioned country town - no need to dress up if you are popping out for a pint of milk - wellies and barbours are the norm !

I love the fact that the presence of mole valley farmers is bandied about as a significant reason to move house (used to work there- not south molton!)

South Molton Mole Valley Farmers and it's purveyor or pork sandwiches in the car park has to be a very good reason to move there!!!!

We live not far away in Bideford and have alot of farm clients in South and North Molton (North Molton however is sheep central due to the steepness of the hills), I really like the area.

Not sure about livery yards there though but you are nice and close to the link road to get anywhere and it's a stunning part of the world down here! Highly recommend it!
