... the average weight in kg of a "regular" rectangular bale of hay? I'm thinking 18-20kg possibly? They're usually a little lighter than a 20kg bag of pony nuts I reckon, but anyone know the standard "average" weight?
Cheers!

They vary hugely in my experience - are you trying to work out weight for feeding? if so you can buy one of those spring balances really cheaply - we used to weight several then take an average for each batch that was delivered

I'm trying to work out if I feed my horse "X" amount of hay a day, how much of a bale this is and so how much it will cost me at "£Y" per bale. If you get my drift.
That's a good idea to weigh a bale or three... but I can't do it now as it's too late to go back to the yard!

I would agree with Emma69. But IMO you are spot on in your estimation of 18-20 Kgs Buying "old" hay (not off the field) by the tonne I would expect to get about 50 - 60 bales at most (17-20 Kgs per bale ) Farmers tend to bale tighter bales for there own use, contractors tend to bale lighter (paid by the bale

The easiest thing to do is work out how much money you can spare. Your horse will usually cost a little bit more than this
