This is meant to be a nice post!! Not quite sure how to word this but here goes!

There are alot of experts on here, some of which I laugh at there replies, but some people who you feel as though you can tell know what they are talking about! So when someone replies to a post of yours or anyone else's who do you listen more too, I have 3 people that when they post I take advice or have a good think about what they have said ( in a non stalkerish way lol) but they would be ( hope they don't mind being named) littlelegs, wagtail and Amymay. Not that I'm saying i don't listen to others as I do!

Hope this cane out right!

I listen to the likes of Oberon, cptrayes, etc as their advise saved my lad from being pts.
It's the same as everything in live, use common sence and pick amonst the know it alls that talk crap. But I owe alot to some on here but Im always willing to listen to anybody and make of it what I will.

It's always interesting to see who others trust. It's also important to note that whilst people may have a good grasp of one subject they can be decidedly lacking in their knowledge of others. They may also not be too good at holding their hands up and saying that they don't know or that their knowledge is gleaned from advice they have recently taken on here or from google.

Heigh ho

Yes i very much value the advice i get from here. Unfortunately there are a large number who seem out to pick a fight or put you down though, and a fair amount of cliqueyness. But in general, yes i have found the site very useful :)

Well put :)

Yes, I do, if someone posts about an illness I haven't come across, I usually have a read.
Some posters do give good advice about general issues and I'll click on a thread to read what they've said, while others talk poo, so I give those a miss.

What I find helpful is that with such a large membership, people have completely different experiences and circumstances and because of the variables, I've become more open minded about the way people solve problems.
Unless they're idiots, of course.

Yes :) I have a lot of respect for those already mentioned & a few others one of who is lolo :) others pop up every so often that I find knowledgeable & others that I think talk rubbish I just like to watch!!

I don't have much knowledge myself as I consider myself a newbie to horses having only owned ponies for 11yrs & there has been many a time I have found advice on here very very helpful xx

I have been lurking a long time on here and use the forum a great deal for advise.

I pick and choose what I listen too, if something sounds daft or cruel etc I wont do it but if there is reasoned argument behind it or it makes sense I go with it.

The most frustrating thing about forums is giving advice that you know is right and people ignoring it then continuing to complain about their problem

Yes dependant on subject. Most on here I would say I find advice helpful in part and wouldn't follow in others, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's right or wrong, simply that it's another view. And it's never a bad way thing to know other ways to do something.

Feet/feed, training, conformation etc would all come from different sources.

There are some who I think are brilliant sometimes but swings very much both ways and is a complete split on what I think of their views.

And there are others I all round find helpful and would probably send a quick PM to ahead of a question on here.

I think as long as you follow that advice up with some research of your own (rather than blindly following) and by understanding the reasoning behind it, it can be invaluable.

While I don't want to pop names up myself I agree wholeheartedly with the ones posted.

As a newbie to the site, I joined because every internet search would lead me here. As such I don't know the "reliable" sources, not meant in a bad way as every forum has the few people you know you can ususally go with.

Although I've asked a couple questions now, my feed one got good replies and helped, but I need a change again so have been using what I've found to make the right decisions. Although as you say, if I ask a question about something and give 3 options (that I've narrowed it down to) and not one reply makes reference to what I've chosen, it doesn't help and maybe I wouldn't be as inclined to pay attention in future.

If asked for advice on specific brands, please do so! I've narrowed it down already, don't suggest others, it's been hard work getting that far!!!

Sometimes yes I do and it has been very good advice. For instance, I think I read on here that Happy Mouth bits can get sharp and splintery when worn, the other day my lovely loan mare began to seem unhappy tossing her head and stuff and I straight away checked the bit and voila, tiny but very sharp splinter, poor girl, so there was some advice that worked and saved her a lot of trying to tell her thicko rider what the matter was! I've now got her in a sweet iron snaffle bit that she seems to like so it's all good.

I listen to some but I dont often seek advise more just to share happy times with horses :D

I dont know if anyone listens to me. I think its hard over a forum to tell the people who are truely knowledgeable and those who can wing it.

I think most people listen to what they most want to hear

It's annoying in that case but in another case someone may suggest an alternative which you wouldn't have thought of and use. So it's not always a bad thing.

I quite like that a lot of 'one question' threads turn into a discussion. Get far more views and interesting points out of it.

It's also annoying for people responding when someone posts a query and then huffs at the answers as ganging up. Having the same opinion isn't ganging up. There's no harm in saying, thanks but no thanks. (not aimed at your post)

I listen to a lot of the advice that I get on CR, the people on there are more on my wavelength.
Over here in NL there are a few who I take notice of but on the whole the whole pious 'Your horse must be out 24/7, barefoot, bitless & that rugs are the work of the devil' attitude more than a little wearing.

Although I love posting that my horse is wearing a HW rug so that when someone replies 'If your horses are wearing HW rugs now what will you do when it gets REALLY cold'
Then I update my H&H character spreadsheet, marking them as 'eejit' :D :D

I've found the advice I've asked for has been useful, although I tend to read advice to other people's queries more than asking myself. There's some really knowledgable people on here and I've learnt a lot about things which although are irrelevant to me, are nonetheless good to know.

I have however found that there are some who slate a way of doing things, based on a warped view of it. There is also advice given which may contrast with the way I or others I know do things, but I'm not obliged to take that advice. It's simply there should I wish to use it. Besides, if we all thought the same the world would be a very boring place!

Oh where to start! Thanks Beans2000, I have great respect for you too. Those who I listen to are many, but amongst them are Amymay, Cptrayes, Oberon, Tallyho, amandap, be positive, littlelegs, maesfen, Tigertail, Janet George, and Spring feather. There are others but those are the ones that come first to mind.

Depends who gives the advice and what the subject is. It would also depend upon whether the advice makes sense and is supported by other sources.

I will happily take the advice of Oberon, CPTrayes, TigerTail etc on hoof/barefoot matters. On riding matters or things like tack, training and performance I would listen very carefully to Kerrilli, Tarrsteps, Gamebird, Baydale, Millitiger etc.

There are other posters who I think are generally people who give well thought out opinions and are worth listening to such as Rhino, JFTD, Amymay, Dee O'Dorant, Wagtail, Measles, Jenhunt, AdorableAlice, Martlin. There are plenty of others that I would take their opinions with a hefty pinch of salt though.

I'd agree with all of those! Wish I hadn't named names now, I keep thinking of people I haven't mentioned who have given good advice!

Same here. I could fill a page. There is a wealth of information and support on here. Gingerwitch is incredibly supportive and gives good advice too. There are many many more!

Yes I do listen to advice given by some people, although the people I dont listen to are the ones who come across rude, disrespectful and have an 'my way is the only way' attitude!

I listen to everyone's advice and then:

1. try it out, with caution if necessary eg food supplementation

2. research it to see if they are right eg legal or vet matters

3. discard it if I am sure it isn't right for me eg training things I know won't work for my situation.

This year the forum supported me marvellously when my horse was going to be put down, for which I will always be grateful to all of you who know who you are. List FAR too long to mention :D You may like to know I have finished the year by being given a lookalike of identical breeding who is sound without shoes now after four years, so Jazz's death was not in vain as it gave me a stable for him.

Thankyou to everyone who mentioned me. If I have helped anyone at all then I am really pleased.

yes and there are some people with great knowledge both in NL and CR.

But even the best advice must be taken with a view that the people proffering advice don't know me, haven't seen my horses or every aspect of a situation. It bugs me when people castigate others and their advice when they are only responding to the info given and never all sides of a story...

I've had a lot of wonderful advice on here on all kinds of things, which has really helped me out :) I'm not going to name names (mostly because I'll probably forget loads and keep coming back to add them as I remember them!) but there are definitely a certain few posters who's advice I gladly take when I need help.
As others have said though different posters are experts in different areas.

Yes of course! I have even changed my mind about a few things and learnt new things in the process!

i find most of the advice on here incredibly helpful, or if i need to research an issue (like recently worming searching through old posts is great, so i do use a lot of what gets posted).

I posted about sore get stirrups and if they were any good or not, got feedback ( thankyou!) bought a pair and love em!
I also found out about fish4dogs on here too which IMO is fab food for my dogs so thanks for that too x

Oh i need to add rhino, and her super secret Santa finding skills are spot in :))!
Also i don't really post in CR alot but kerelli knows her stuff for sure and I love reading PS and NMT threads as al though they are far far better riders than me, I get quite inspired by their posts going so far with there OTTBs :)

I've asked for guidance a few times and have been given some great advice. I am really impressed by the detail some posters have gone to to answer my questions. Thank You :)
Lots of differing opinions as well which make you think about what you are doing and whether it's right. I also ended up here because most horse or rider related searches will lead to H&H. :)

Yes I've listened to the usual suspects who know their stuff about barefoot and I wouldn't have a sound horse without them so well worth listening, and yes CPT, you're definitely one of them! On the whole I like the wide variety of suggestions you can get on here, but I'm usually very careful about how I word any of my queries!

I hate it when people jump right in and tell someone else they're completely wrong when they only know half of the story, and I do sometimes find my attempts to be fair all round can get me into trouble!

But overall I love it on here and have made some really good friends thanks to being here and taking their advice :)
