Does anyone meet their children from school with the childs pony

My dad used to walk my pony down for me to ride home from primary school on a Friday afternoon. Remember getting changed into my riding stuff at high speed in the toilets and coming out to find an adoring swarm around my devil of a welshie and feeling like the absolute bees knees as I rode away. Happy memories

I have done it plenty of times in a pony and cart. It can be a bit hairy, as others have said, the traffic isn't great around the school gate at pick-up. You need to know your pony!

I would never go up to the school gate with him I'd wait on the bridle path with him which is about 1 minute away and a friend would walk my son down to me he's good but not sure he'd cope with lots of cars , school bus and lots of kids!

I would think a wonderful idea, and do able in 50's-80's, but not now. The village primary school is not for village children anymore and therefore everyone is brought by car so far too dangerous

I regularly end up hacking past the school pick up drop off by mistake, so mine are pretty desensitised, I wouldn't take them to collect any potential children though- would hate for a child to end up under him, parents seem to struggle to keep them off the road let alone pony zones!

Yes, we have done it recently with my 7 year old daughter, and we'll be doing it again next week. The pony is in the same village as our house and the school, its a 10 minute steady walk, the road is fairly busy with school traffic but I walk alongside and slow the traffic right down, in fact the increased traffic helps as it tends to build up in front and behind us so its all moving very slowly. Plus if a driver does anything stupid there is a very good chance they are going to the school. So I would simply follow them in to the car park and make their error absolutely clear to them while my daughter was sat alongside on the pony. We generally take the pony up to a school side gate where its quieter and he doesn't get swamped by kids.
