Thinking of buying a new Disco on their passport package, pay a deposit, monthly payments then swap it in for a new one every 3 years or so.

My husband works abroad and although touch wood we haven't had many car issues, having a car that we can just take in to sort any issues would ease his worries considerably. We need to upgrade to a 4x4 anyway as I now have a trailer which I tow with my Dad's defender but I feel bad borrowing it all the time. :o

I just wonder how much it costs? Understand the bigger the deposit the lower the monthlies .....

Any advise will be gratefully received and if you don't want to post your finances but are still happy to share with me please PM me :)

I have a disco but not on a package. I love the car and it tows fantastically but I will not have another. The only way I would have one is if it was on a package where they had to sort out anything that went wrong!

Thank you for the feed back- The Disco suits me as its a 'proper' 4x4 living in and area that flood regularly and when the snow comes its awful, towing, but smart enough for our family and the 7 seats for when we want to take kids and their friends out and I have a friend with a Pathfinder which she has had nothing but problems with... So Disco is the way forward but I think the passport will mean no worries motoring!

We had a Disco on that sort of package a few years ago but got rid of it after less than a year after nothing but trouble with it. It got stuck in a flat field once and we phoned Land Rover Assist to get it out and they refused saying it wasn't an off road vehicle and if we'd wanted to drive on grass we should have bought a Defender

I think the final straw was after sending it back twice to get problems with the locks sorted it locked itself with my keys in the ignition and my dogs in the back. It took over an hour for me to get a lift home and get the spare key and then it still refused to open. Am now driving a Land Cruiser :D

I think their finance was very comparable to others we looked at but just be careful about the figure owing after the monthly payments are up. It sounds wonderful just handing it back and getting a new one but if for any reason you decide not to do that you may end up owing more than the car is worth, we certainly had problems when we got rid of ours. I think the bigger deposit you can put down the better and if you can afford to do a loan on it rather than the lease type arrangement you may be better off - at some point you will have to PAY for a vehicle you own unless of course you plan to lease for the rest of your driving days.

Also keep an eye on the mileage stipulation if there is one as I've heard that can be very expensive too. I have a friend paying monthly for a car that she daren't drive because she is already over the mileage allowance.

Oh dear I sound doom & gloom and I don't mean to especially when it's so exciting getting a new vehicle, I'm just thinking of things to look out for on that type of finance arrangement. Sorry :o

No, thank you I appreciate the heads up!

Land cruiser- NICE!

I'm going into chat with the owner of the dealership (friend of a friend) and I'll take a copy of your problems with me. I realise the passport system is the most expensive way to have the car even with a large deposit but was hoping the ongoing support would make it stress free (i guess that doesn't exist!)and if the LR assist says things like that then this is something I will want nailed down pre purchase.

We propably will stay on the package for a while as husband plans to be abroad for another 7 years :(

If the Disco is so ***** we may go for the Range and do without the 7 seats

I am going back a couple of years so the package is probably much better now and the new Disco is meant to be superb so I doubt you'd have the issues we had. It certainly looks a lovely vehicle, mind you the Range Rover is top class, I drove one recently ( can't remember which model ) and all I can say is wow!
I was stuck at a horse event a while ago and it really was treacherous mud with most people getting towed in or out, I saw a low sporty RR trying to get in and thought it would never make it but it certainly did and it looked great doing it :D

My husband also works abroad, he's away 8 months each year, so I know how important it is to have a reliable vehicle when you're own your own most of the time. I always feel safer having a full back up package for emergencies so go over the Assist package with a fine toothed comb.

It's always exciting getting a new vehicle, have fun with it :)
