I am looking for the good / bad / ugly on them as I have never used or fitted them but am seriously considering getting a pair for my mare who doesn't have shoes on her back feet (long story).

It would be mainly for turnout purposes rather than riding, but she *may* be brought back into work in the spring.

Thanks in advance for your help

We bought some this year for our old TB who is retired but started suffering really badly with abscesses and his feet were crumbling. He was on 3 legs at one point!

The Boa's were easy enough to fit and he had them on 24/7 basically although we did have to re-jig them a bit occasionally but then we were poulticing him at the same time anyway. He was just in a smallish paddock to keep the others from bullying him whilst he was hobbling so not sure how they'd fair if they could really blast about!

Not ridden him out in them but they seem to stay in place pretty well so i'm sure they wouldn't be a problem.

Hi, I used the Boa boots last summer when I moved my mare, the hacking was really stony and they helped her until she got used to it, I dont use mine anymore.
They're pretty easy to fit, I used the chaps as well as I heard they might rub sensitive skin otherwise. good luck.

We only use them for turnout when they've lost a shoe. If used for longer than a few days they can rub and thats just being used during the day.

Would I turn a horse out in them? - absolutely no way! I have Old Macs and Boas and seen all the others too and I would never turn a horse out in any of them because the risk of rubbing is just too high.

If your mare is too sore to walk on her unshod feet in a field, are you sure you shouldn't have shoes put on her? Or work out why she is sore and fix that, because this is just not normal for an unshod horse?

Of course you may already know and be unable to cure it, in which case it would be interesting to know if you are able to tell us.
