Does anyone own a headshaker??

I do. One of my beasts is allergic to oil seed rape pollen...so headshakes for the approx 6 week flowering season...although the level of shaking varies with the pollen count. As soon as the rape flowers go, so does her problem.

Bloss is a headshaker, the only month of the year she dosent do it is January. She wears a nose net all year round, and full face fly mask all year round in the field. I also give her Skratch and Zephyr by Global Herbs which has helped too.

I have a dispensation letter from BD which i send in with my entries. You have to get permission from BE/BD/PC/BSJA to wear a net when competing. I also always carry a letter from my vet in my pocket when competing, just in case.

Bloss is very severe, somedays i cant ride her even with her net on. I cant lunge her in the summer as she seems to be worse when being lunged. Shes fine lunging in the winter tho.

yes! went down the route of having saddle back teeth everything checked, even got a second dentist out which did the trick so is definatly worth double checking. She still head shakes when you ask her to work properly but i think this is a case of trying to evade the bit due to her teeth being bad before and needing to be re-educated. It doesnt bother me too much, only when other liveries say "you need to have that horses teeth back saddle checked" which of course i have done! With lots of support from exp people and frequent lessons and schooling we shall get there - albeit i dont think she will ever be a dressage master but her jumping is outstanding and she is perfect in every other way so i cope with it.

My pony is a headshaker - but yes only in the summer. We put a nose net on her and it all but solves the problem. It doesn't effect her when she is ridden as long as she has the net on

mine was a really bad headshaker-then we realsied he needed teeth out lol. but i geuiss those net things or pollen suppliments might work... some people say that 'cut up socks' are better than nose nets!?!!??

I do, I only got him in May and had no idea, then a few weeks in the rape came out and he started quite badly! so I got him a nose net and he has been fine! He never does it whilst jumping or at a show, mind on other things and all that - He ripped his nose net tho ages ago so I have been riding him without it for ages and he has been fine, but have also had his teeth done and they were bad, so that may have also helped! But I am sure when summer comes he will be back in it!!

I compete BSJA and have never been challenged about using the net - so I think they are legal under BSJA rules!

I do, he only shakes in Summer. He wears a nose net, which means it doesn't affect him to be ridden at all, except he might have the occasional shake on a very polleny or very bright day. Also on Shake Free by global herbs. Never had a problem competing in dressage in the net.

Penfold is a headshaker[this is like an AA meeting] He is controlled with a nose net and has a letter for each discipline. He is worse in the spring and on global herbs zephyr pollenex.

I own a horse who headshakes and he wears a nose net all year and is fine with it. A friend's horse who seems more sensitive and even head shakes when grazing, is on Tegratol????, its a human epilipsy drug and that has helped.

Friends horse headshakes all year round, but is worse the fitter she is. They've had all sorts of drugs from the vet, to no avail. I think she still headshakes wearing a nose net, but not as badly.

Both my boys wear nose nets (seen in my 3rd piccie on my siggie, if you have good eyes!), TB has to wear his nose net all year and that keeps him happy and my old boy just needs to wear his in the summer months, but with him it is more an aversion (sp) to flies and Blackthorne and Mayflower pollen/petals and this makes him jump on his forehand and he throws a foreleg out .... and in his heyday he would charge along like a stallion snorting!

Me, with a nosenet he's absolutely fine. Nosenets are allowed in all competitions and tbh I don't notice it any more. Only problems happen when I run out of nosenets (they get ripped or dirty occasionally) and I can only ride at walk (he only shakes in trot/canter).

It's horrible riding him without a nosenet, poor sod.

Yes it mainly happens in the Summer, but he wears the nosenet all year just in case.
