My mum and I had a Morgan. We got him at 8 months old and he was lovely. His temperament was very easy going and he loved the company of people and would follow us around the field while we were poo picking.
The first time he saw a tractor he walked right up to it to have a sniff, totally unfazed by the whole experience. The first person to sit on his back was my daughter who was actually born on the same day same year as him, she was 2 years old. By the time my daughter was three we were hacking her out on a lead reign on him.
I will add he was entire, and this was never a problem for us, we could go out with mares and have no problems whatsoever, his sire was exactly the same. I have met lots of other Morgans and some tend to be much more difficult to handle than ours, so again I think it differs depending on the breeding. The Foal he ran with before we had him was the most lovely looking palomino filly, we were going to buy her too but she was very expensive and totally out of our price range, when she was 3 the breeder still had her and asked if we wanted her on the cheap as she was such a handful, but we said no.
The first show he went to we came second, and he was brilliantly behaved apart from when he saw donkeys which he found completely horrifying.
I will add that he struggled with being a tad chunky and keeping the weight off him was difficult, he could also be a little sluggish at times. He was also barefoot and our farrier said he had the nicest set of hooves he has ever seen.
He is now with girl who teaches natural horsemanship methods and he looks amazing and is being ridden western.

Yes I've got 5 of them ranging from 10 months to 22 years. They are a wonderful breed, tough and athletic, extremely versatile; I do endurance with mine. Best of all is their temperament, they love people and especially children. They are great fun to ride, like the equine equivalent of a sports car. Have a look at the BMHS website, some breeders have their websites listed there. Here's mine pjbmorgans.webplus.net , if you have any questions please ask away.

Hi All - I was brought here by our Morgan Forum on Face Book - and also notice my website has been viewed from here!!! I was very sad to see that someone had a a bad experience with a Morgan and also it was said that alot of the Morgans of today, in the UK, were bred for the showring and not alot more. Im am blessed to own some beautiful horses - most of them shown at Breed shows, but alot more at non breed shows!!!! Do they just show....no!!!!! :) Mine go out every day like normal horses, they hack out they do anything and everything that any other equine does. Morgans are natural show offs, and they do exactly that in a showring - at home tho Grandma Lil, or the baby of the family could ride them!!! Alot of people say to me ..... OOoooh I didnt know a Morgan could do that, I thought they had the long manes and tails and stood funny. They are probably one of the most versatile breeds I have ever had the pleasure to own!! Morgans compete and do well in FEI, Endurance, Dressage, Cross Country, Private Driving.... and everything else I have forgotten, we just dont shout it enough from the rooftops.. YES ITS A MORGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every one of mine has an individual personality, and everyone of them I love for this. I would rather not have a horse in my life.. than not have a Morgan.:)

We have two, bred by PJB Morgans. I would like to encourage anyone thinking of purchasing a Morgan how versatile, characterful and kind they are. This breed deserves a higher profile. Ours have met all our expectations and more. Very lucky, happy owners.
