I've just brought the horses in and Oz has very swollen lymph glands both sides behind the jaw. The swelling isn't tender when prodded and he's tucking into his supper no problem. This has come on suddenly - he was fine this morning.

He's not a young horse, so unlikely to be teeth and there's no strangles around. An allergy maybe? Is this familiar to anyone?
 
Probably grass glands, they come up while grazing and should go down while stabled, nothing to worry about. Not all horses get them and some will one day and not the next, no idea why.

That's interesting, he's 23 and I've had him since a 4 year old and he's never had anything like this before. Still, there's a first time for everything I guess and there does appear to be some grass growing in his paddock.

Greedy pony syndrome/grass glands/enlarged salivary glands. Mine does this when he changes fields occasionally :) Take his temperature if you are worried but I expect it is just this.
 
Horses at our yard have been getting these symptoms over the last 10 years.
No pattern, any horse any day, only similarity is it only happens when they are in one particular field.

Vet doesn't seen worried and it Doon goes down.
 
Not wanting to worry you, but one of ours ones was originally just diagnosed with swollen glands as he'd picked up a virus a few weeks before that...never went away and finally got diagnosed with cancer and it was actually tumours underneath it.


If it's not gone away after a week or so, I'd def get it checked...only because of personal experience though.
 
Yes, sure, it had crossed my mind but the swelling has come up so suddenly. If it hasn't gone down by the morning I'll get the vet out.
 
A few on our yard have been getting this, first time I have noticed it.

Stressy warmblood came in yesterday with them slightly swollen, other two were fine. I would have worried if I had not seen a few of the others the same last week.
