Does anyone ever ride in gym/non horse brand leggings? Or any other bottoms that aren't meant to be for riding? Jeggings, jeans etc? I hate the feeling of synthetic fabrics, which seems to be the fashion with equestrian clothing at the moment, so thinking of just getting some thick cotton gym leggings to ride in. Classic cotton jods could also be an option, but they never seem to fit me right.

Yep! I think that the more modern riding tights are basically gym leggings, anyway, so I mix and match between them. Only issue is that the gym leggings seem to wear out at the crotch/bum a bit faster than the riding-specific ones.

Have done - you can feel everything a lot more and occasionally have been pinched by stirrup leathers/saddle where there wasn't extra cushioning on the leg.

Thanks everyone! I'm guessing that they wear out quicker because the fabric is generally thinner? You can still buy traditional cotton jods nowadays but the fabric is super thick.

I've got some leggings from Fabletics (the Powerhold ones) that have been very abused and are now a couple of years old, they haven't worn out yet!

I mostly ride in Matalan Jeggins!

Look like normal denim but are thinner and more stretchy. The inner seams are quite flat too, the pockets are useful and there are no metal rivets. Best of all, they are only £12.50!

Many different colours and lengths.

I like the look of these! They look like they would be durable. And much more affordable than most conventional riding trousers :)

Yes, I never ride in anything else at home - I just buy bog standard gym leggings from the supermarket, Im always watching to see if they're on sale and I can get super cheap ones to mess about in / ride. They're no more slippy than my other actual riding tights.

I ride in skinny jeans sometimes and find them ok I can feel the inner seem sometimes but it's not terrible.

I like a lot of the denim breeches and riding tights they are not made of the shiny lycra stuff that gym and some riding tights are made of.

I find they look nicer and if you do need to go shopping quickly or do something not horsey they just look more like jeans.

My last pair were Cameo and were about £50

Yes. They do wear out a bit quicker but I often ride in them.

As another user said, I do also often realise half way through my yoga I'm wearing a pair of riding tights ?

Yep I have many pairs of lululemon dupes and they are fantastic so have ditched most of my riding tights in favour of. And about £12 a pair what’s not to love.

As Criso said I do it backwards too! (Wear riding leggings for yoga)

I have ridden in gym leggings but note that certain materials can be very slippery in the saddle

Thanks everyone! I'm guessing that they wear out quicker because the fabric is generally thinner? You can still buy traditional cotton jods nowadays but the fabric is super thick.

Decathlon cheapest black jobs are very thin cotton. They were about £15 last time I bought any. I actually sent them back because they were too thin for what I wanted.
.

I occasionally ride in normal leggings but just seem to end up with various bruises. I find jodhpurs too restrictive so I mainly ride in riding tights with silicone seat.

I used to live in jeans when i worked at the polo yard but i tend to wear riding tights now and live in them most of the day!!

Primani skinny jeans here too! I refuse to buy expensive kit for work. OK they last about 6 months tops but I do abuse them! Plus in the winter I have thermals or base layers on under them and waterproofs on top so if they do split a bit across the seat bones no one knows!
