Does anyone ride in long coats anymore?

I have a long coat which I used for walking the dogs up until recently when I wore it for riding.

It was brill, kept draft off my legs and kept me dry all over. And it even stopped my saddle getting wet.

One of the liveries commented on how old fashioned I looked (not that I care) but I wonder if other people wear them and would you wear one for schooling?
 
I used to when i worked at a yard in London as they lent me a long wax jacket... I still would if i had a long jacket of my own, think they're great for keeping warm and dry.

Dont know how old you are, but I am 40 something and I have one of those long Drizabone coats, have had it for years, its battered and worn, but I love it. I wear it when riding in wet weather and have even used it when I school my cob. Dont laugh, but I always felt terribly romantic wearing mine, as it has a slight skirt at the back which is like a little cloak. None of the liveries on my yard comment, in fact some of them wear similar coats - and our ages range from 13 years to nearly 60. I reckon they are also great for walking wet and windy xc courses as a part of my other duties, as an 'Eventing mummy', plus totally fab for wandering around wet and windy 4* courses and of course trade stands. Coupled with a pair of Dubarries and one of those leather bush hats, I have to say they look the part (of course, wear proper riding hat and boots when riding).

Tell them they have no taste .........
 
They are great! I've had my full length wax one since I was at school (some 16 plus years ago!) and oddly enough said to my hubby today:

'You know, I am stupid, I've got my long wax in the cupboard that I haven't used this year'

DOH!!!! (am getting it out tonight, don't know why I've been so thick this year lol!!!!)

So yes, I usually wear it for any winter riding, and will be again from tomorrow ....

I wouldn't say they look old fashioned, they look practical and warm and dry.

Mine is a bit huge though since i am and always have been tiny. And the shoulder flap things are ridiculously too big. That's what you get for buying a cheap one. So i do look a bit daft but who cares as long as i'm dry?
 
i haven't for a while now, but i don't start out on a ride when it's raining (luckily can pick time that i go out nowadays!), only ride in rain if i get caught when i'm already out.
when i used to exercise point to pointers i was out every morning without fail and i would use it then if it was raining, and still would if i had to go out in the rain.
 
I had one when I was about 10 (do you know how impossible they are to get to fit a child that's in sort of 7-8yr old size clothing?!) and when I outgrew it never got another

) But I also love riding in the rain, so it makes sense!
 
I've honestly never heard of anyone saying or thinking long coats were old fashioned. I've got a full-length Drizabone which is absolutely perfect for riding in the rain.

Seri-horse-ly - if your livery thinks that looks old fashioned then I wonder quite what they'd think of me - in my Driza with an ex-police Hi-Viz sleeved tabard worn over the top of it!!!

Do I give a damn? No!
 
I've got a long wax jacket, but haven't worn it for ages. Not sure why, as it would certainly help with putting hay out, in work clothes! I shall wear it tomorrow, in your honour!
 
OH and I have several Drizabone stockmans coats, they are superb in the wet. We have a husband and wife that ride Western style locally and they also wear similar coats.

Old fashioned or not, I'd prefer to be dry and warm over fashionable any day thank you.

Im so glad Im not the only one that thinks these coats are brilliant.

Ive just not seen anyone else around the area wearing one.

Will wear with pride in the knowledge that Im warm and dry and that anyone else ooking at me and thinking they may get one!
 
I wear mine if I think it's going to rain while I'm out. I really suffer with painful knees if they get wet and cold whilst in a riding position so it's essential to keep them dry!

Also keeps the saddle dry of course.
