As title says really.

Does anyone either school in the morning, then hack in the evening. Lunge AM then school PM e.t.c. Do you do say 5 days of working twice a day then 2-3 days off e.t.c

Is this beneficial or detrimental?

Just asking really as most people I come across ride once a day and some only once a week!

i do during the summer, mostly as taz has to be at his fittest all summer and it keeps the weight off him a bit more, i dont neccessarilly ride him twice a day but he either gets lunged, long reined or loose schooled either morning or evening and then ridden the other time, plus i have more time during the summer being a student, so it keeps him in shape :) but then he gets one day off during the week and plenty of field time in between

i wouldnt say it is detrimental, in some cases a overweight horse could benifit from getting worked twice a day to keep him moving, others may not benifit from it at all, for example riding school horses that could be getting used three or four times a day

When I had an Arab, i found she was most pleasant if ridden 6 days a week. When light allowed she was hacked twice a day, several days a week. Friend rode in the morning and me in the evening. Arab lived out in 10 acre field so amused herself rest of the time.

Has to depend on the horse. my warmblood would be shocked if i tried to work him more than once a day.

i have- my grey was liable to getting a bit podgy so i went through a phase of this...would probably only do it with a fatty tho...

only done that on the odd occasion but its always been a light hack in morning then schooling/jumping evening or vice verser. I would do it more often if i had time as it dosn't bother him to be ridden twice a day :D

Depends on the weather and the amount of things i have to do that day, not 2 sets of hard work, say a mixture of lunge then school or hack then school etc.

Iv done it twice, rode at home then went xc schooling just so he'd be easier to handle. But otherwise nope i only have time to ride once a day 6days a week and thats how we like it :) also think we'd both get bored if i rode twice a day

Yep through summer I do.

He's lunged/ hacked in the evening when its still a little warm and schooled at 7 o clock whilst its still cool! Keeps the weight off as we often have a LOT of grass come september/october.

It would be useful in winter, if your horse had to be stabled, to ride twice for shorter periods. Break the boredom up for them. It does no harm at all. Riding school horses work two or three hours a day (although probably just at weekends).

Used to. When I was show-jumping as a kid I used to get up at 4am 3 weekday mornings per week to cycle to the yard, to road work for an hour before school. (I went to school in London and had to commute in, so had to leave for school at 7am sharp.) I'd then school or interval train again in the evening, after school. Needless to say, my competition results were excellent.... my school grades weren't! :p

i know a lot of showing peeps who ride twice a day for fitness levels..
i think HRH would prob call nspcc though if i tried it with her lol!!
