I have a whippet pup of 5 months and so far have resisted taking her to bed as she is happy with my other dog, Megan the rotti. But ........... I am so very tempted, whats the thoughts and opinions of this habit please.

I would love to with my two, but upstairs is cat territory where Squid my cat can relax without worrying about the dogs and I don't want to change that. Besides, I am not sure that I could trust them not to chew things or start jumping all over the bed in the middle of the night

Anyway, they seem more than happy in their extra large crate at night - they put themselves to bed about half an hour before I go up!

Yep, our boy sleeps on our bed every night, takes himself off up to bed about 9 and we follow on up about 10!! Luckily we have an american super king size bed so there's plenty of room for the 3 of us though I have to put up with 2 lots of snoring from both OH and Bruno!

Your question to Stella should be, "Do you share the bed with your humans?" Seriously, I can't move at night for the gassy little piglet (not my husband

) in the bed.

I wouldn't do it if I had a dominant dog i.e. one that growls/bites/guards when on the bed, but mine can be picked up, shoved aside, rolled over, even in the deepest sleep, and all she'll do is chomp her lips in contentment. Nor will she come up unless invited first.

I have never allowed dogs to sleep on my bed.....except....MY WHIPPETS.......it's impossible to keep them out

As long as u are sure it will not cause problems...i.e when u don't want her on or in the bedroom...she does not scream the house down...I cant exactly say NO...when I do it..lol

I would and have done, for years before, but now we have three dogs and I wouldn't take one and not another, also they can be a bit smelly, farty, snorey, smacking their lips, etc!

I don't even share inside my house with my dogs, let alone allow them to share my bed. I very much doubt they would fit even though I have a California SuperKing bed

. I have an enormous Akbash, a big Malinois, a bouncy Springer Spaniel/ Collie and her little puppy. The puppy might be quite cute on a bed......but not mine!

My dogs are happier outside and having free run of the farm - they would quickly get very very fed up with living in a house.

Nope Cat's upstairs, dog downstairs. it's only fair. Recently i have let allowed Boris sleep out of the crate (he's 16 months) in his "grow up" bed so far he has been brilliant... stays downstairs. sleeps peacefully all night.

Yep both my whippets sleep in the bed and i mean IN the bed one has her head on the pillow and the rest of her body under the quilt

My poor hubby has to fight for a space

they keep me warm though and i love um to bits

My 10 month old JRT sleeps on the bed, usually gets kicked around it all night when she steals the duvet.

The two big dogs (greyhounds) sleep in the room in their dog beds or on the landing where I usually fall over them in the middle of the night.

We started off by making everyone sleep downstairs but somehow this is what we have ended up with.

I tell my OH that at least this way, even though we both work, they spend most of their time with us even if we are all asleep.

I like it when my pack are asleep, much less bother!

Yep, I know I shouldn't but I like having snugglies to warm my feet on. One sleeps under the duvet, one at the end with her own pillow, one in the middle with his back to me like spoons and one on the pillow behind my head!

Thanks folks for your replies, it sounds from the whippet owners that they are lovely to sleep with. So, given a little more house training as I dont want to be getting up in the middle of the night, it looks like Mindy will be coming to bed.

My dogs share what they view as their bed with me

Only the littleys though, Jim and Millie, Mouse sleeps with my bro because he kicked up a fuss! I've had the big lad (Stan) sharing too but in the caravan.

My daughter would KILL me if she saw this! It was taken about a month after she finished her successful chemo for osteosarcoma (adolescebt bone cancer). She had little hair and therefore wore a hat when she wasn't wearing one of her many EXPENSIVE wigs! Her beloved baby retriever, Lottie, goes everywhere with her, including under the duvet! Her svelt size 10 was then a size 16 due to steroids (slowly going back to a 14....doesn't fall off easily even after almost a year off steroids!). My Springer, Molly, sleeps under my duvet, our 8 months old Munsterlander sleeps on either my bed or daughter's, and our two Springer pups sleep "in their house" (ie dog crate) in the ultilty room. But, like several of you have said, cats rule upstairs!!!

Yes! my dog comes to bed with me every night. My husband works away in the week so dog un I happily slumber. When hub comes home dog comes to bed then jumps down when he comes to bed. He likes to jump back up again when husband go 2 work early

Yep, Star, our pointer sleeps on our bed and it's a pain TBH!! She insists on stretching right out, OH seems to keep his ground well but she pushes me out of the way with her pointy feet and I end up with no space and no covers!!

Little Alf the border terrier comes for a cuddle at bed time but normal sleeps on the floor/his bed... I wish it was the other way around!

Go for it, you know you want to

My two Standard Poodles sleep on the bed every night and I just think its lovely when we are all curled-up together, especially in winter

Yes - sometimes. He has a bed on the floor but when its cold hes allowed on the bed as we have no central heating so he keeps me warm (along with the two cats). OH keeps complaining that he gets pushed out of bed tho

I'm afraid I normally share large double with OH, small black lab (likes to put her head on pillow) and springer spaniel who, thankfully, curls up at the bottom of the bed. Oh yes, and sometimes pussy cat too.

I know lots of people frown at this sort of thing and I really get fed up with black hairs in the bed linen, but there is something very nice about snuggling up with a little slumbering pup....

no, not at all. Our Dally has the full run of the house but she's not allowed on any furniture whatsoever. I have never allowed it.

I dont even let the cat sleep on the beds without a towel being down. I knowa, as much as I love em, I just cant let them sleep in/on the beds. It's just me.

I also hate to see cats on the kitchen work surfaces urrrghh - no way!!

Well OH's dog used to sleep IN the bed with him but now i stay round there said dog is not allowed in the bed. However he does snore, fart, stink on the floor next to the bed so not much better really.
