I didnt know quite how to word it, but does anyone on here have a small private yard and loan out the odd stable to a member of the public?

If so what were the conditions you put on your yard, did you ask £for up keep? and what kinds of facilities/services do you offer, like do you turn one out the morning, and the sharer brings in in the afternoon for instance?? Do you have arenas?

And how did you go about advertising it?

(Asking because I'm looking for a yard in East Yorkshire, DIY/Assisted only condition is that it must have an arena and within reason all year round turnout. Beverley/Driffield area. I'm tidy and horse is clean.)- Wanted to see where to look and how everyone else went about it.

Thanks xx

We have one 'livery' who in return for a stable and hore being kept helps with mucking out etc. I think its a pretty good deal, unlimited hay and straw and hard feed is included and if away horse is done.

Hi

I got very lucky and keep my horse on a private yard, i was desperate to find somewhere and what I wanted people in the area said didnt exist! so i made a lovely poster with a pic of me and my horse and a little to the point bit about what i wanted and put it up in some local feed/tack shops and got responses immediately, some from people just suggesting livery yards but on from the most perfect private yard! I love it sooo much and thank god she lives on site to help me in situations like this snow meyhem!

kind of......one of my friends keeps her daughters pony at my yard for free, and in return she brings mine in in the afternoons whilst im still at work, grooms and changes rugs and poo picks.
i feed/rug change and turn her pony out with mine in the morning so she only has to make one trip to the yard.
great arrangement which works really well for us but we knew we got long well before she moved the pony in.

I sort of was on that basis with my old mare at a local farm, I paid a lowish rent for stable/field, pay for hay/straw etc and I would generally turn them out together and get them both in (both were retired). Yard then turned in an actual livery yard (presumably I was such a good livery it encouraged them) whereupon it went rapidly down hill due to a very bizarre manager and I left! I put some "livery wanted on private yard/farm" adverts up in local newsagents/tack shops and think I had a couple of calls. Have also done some cold calling at people's houses where I have noticed nice facilities in the past (why not, if you don't ask, you never know).

yes, we get lots of people stopping to ask if we do livery-i dont mind this at all (except the one woman that let herself in to the yard and went nosing round the stables!!!), but we are full currently!

Yes have done this twice both with people we already knew. We do a v cheap rent and muck in to avoid too many trips to yard - so share T/Os etc. We were approached rather than advertised as didn't really want 'liveries' but in both cases the people were a bit stranded with their horses. Useful to have an extra pair of hands esp in emergancies. Quite crucial that you all get on!
