Was going to put this in careers but wanted a better response!
Does anyone subscribe to the Equine Veterinary Journal? I can't work out from their website if you get access to all online copies of the previous journals if you subscribe, or just for the ones published while you subscribe? If you get my drift...?
So if I took out a sub, would I be able to access an article from say 1998 online, or just the Jan 2007 one?
Cheers for any help!
And I realise my library probably has copies, but that would involve going to the library and fighting the third year biomechanics students, who are scary!

If you're at uni and they've subscribed to it, can you not access it online instead? Just seems an expensive way of doing it otherwise, altho i'd assume you would get all articles i wouldn't like to say for certain as my uni subscribed, so i could access it all from anywhere on uni network, or using a passord from outside uni network.

Do they not use the Athens network?!!?

I may be wrong but a voice in my head is saying they use the Athens networks...so if you uni does too (which most do) then you should be able to access then online through that...as long as you have your username and password!

I don't think they do subscribe to it (can't find it on their list, wouldn't put it past them to forget an important one like EVJ...)
I do have an athens account, but I couldn't figure out how to use it yesterday and now it won't let me log on today! Would I be able to get to the EVJ journals through the athens site then?
Dammit why did I move to a useless uni!

You can only access the ones that your institution subscribed to, i.e if they set up their subscription in 2001 then you can only see papers from 2001 onwards. Is this what you mean?

What is the reference? I may be able to get it and email it to you?

Well apparently Sparsholt don't subscribe to it at all. And that was what I meant, thank you!
There isn't a specific ref I wanted, just to be able to search all the old articles to do with the kinematics of the trot. I'm supposed to be explaining why the trot is used to evaluate lameness with reference to the linear and temporal kinematics of the trot, but can not for the life of me find any research that says anything about why we use trot!
I want to do something similar for my dissertation next year too, which will be interesting if I have no outside reading!

Ooh, thats a bit rubbish. Where is Sparsholt? The British Library in London have pretty much every journal imagineable since time began! If you can get a lecturer to write a letter saying you need to use their services then you could try there - may be too far out of your way though. Have you got The Athletic Horse and Equine Locomotion? They are not great but might get you started.
Good luck!

Sparsholt is in Hampshire. They're not the best, but they're working on it. I reckon I might see if I can get a few of us together to ask our tutor if she can get the library to subscribe, I don't know how I'll write any sort of decent dissertation on free stuff from the internet!
I have a few books, and a couple of decent looking free journal articles, but nothing that really tells me what I need to know and gives me a decently credible reference about it.
Argh!
Thanks for your help anyway!
