Just curious does anyone tow with a pickup, if so good, bad or indifferent... I currently tow with a Hyundai Terracan and if I had to replace it, I don't know what I would choose as it tows 2.8 metric tons and does 32 mpg super urban there aren't many 4x4's out there that do that...

cheers...

We tow with a 15 plate Toyota Hilux. Tows well and never struggles. Now also have the option of towing with a Disco 4 but there doesn't seem to be too much in it performance wise, however only towing 1 horse really.

is that an Isuzu Rodeo and just slightly off topic but what is like for everyday, my Hyundai Terracan and it is quite hard getting in and out of parking spaces...? This will be my only car and has to do everything for me...

cheers...

I do a high mileage with a pick up. Prefer it to the previous vehicle which was a defender. Pick up tows better and is about a million times more comfortable.

We tow with a Mitsubishi L200 4Life (was 1 or 2 ponies max weight 790kg, now just 1 horse weight 500kg). I would say the biggest problem is planning your turns as the 4Life is VERY long with a poor turning circle compared to the Shogun. There are certain places eg a friend's yard I have to drive right into the field to turn round as I can't reverse in off the road (or out again) as the lane is too narrow. Tows lovely though, and not too bad on economy. Like that it has the seats in the back, so plenty of room, we have a lid over the pickup so can get all the gear and more in.

Tow with nissan navara tows 3.5T get a genuine 35mpg in everyday mode obviously when towing around 28! Its the NP300 new version . On the farm the Navs have replaced Discos no complaints and certainly less trips( 0 ) back to dealers.

Yup, brand new Ford Ranger. It tows 3.5 tonnes. It's not as refined as the discovery but still does an excellent job!

L200 Barbarian, and I echo Dubsies comment. It does make for a loooooong combination !

I have a Hilux as well 2014 model, tows fine, I find the ride seems a bit bouncy to me, but ponies travel fine.

Just don't have the MPG showing on the display when you're round town, it'll make you cry.!

Used to have a Fourtrack that I loved

We also have an L200 4 life with a 'farm canopy'. Brilliant towing vehicle, very stable, very solid, will tow off road uphill through mud no problem. Like the others have already said the turning circle is awful, like the QE2, but I've not got it wedged yet and we go to some pretty tight places, you just have to think about it before starting. Loads of room for 'stuff'.

We have a single cab Hilux too, drives more like a car than the L200 and is slightly better on fuel (it is newer and isn't as heavy). Not as good towing off road (although this may not be as important to you, we tow a lot of cattle off road in boggy conditions and it is ok but not as good as the L200).

Have towed with a L200 (2014, trojan model so a tad shorter!) for the last 3 yrs and its been great. I used it as my only vehicle, it would do average of 32- 36mpg when not towing. Great turning circle, better than the older model, the reason we bought this one was as it didn't seem as bulky as some of the pick ups but still happily towed 2 horses. I know the new model drives a lot bigger. We only swapped it in as I needed more seats (kids!).

Got a L200 and it tows well so I am told. I haven't got a licence yet so haven't towed with it but it seems to do well. But its very long, so there is that issue.

Isuzu 65 plate, 3.5 ton tow. Love it. Prior to that had a Isuzu rodeo 04 plate from new.
Neither gave me any trouble. Both towed equitrek showtrekka, sometimes with 2 big horses up, without a thought.
Yes a long rig but very maneuverable. On long journeys I reckon I get about 35 mpg.

I have a modern shape L200 and a Discovery and (whisper) I find the L200 easier to drive than the Disco - apart from its enormous length. There are no reversing beeps and I always think I am going to hear the crunch of metal when I reverse.
It has a nice light clutch, which is the chief issue with the Disco, and although it isn't the most comfortable ride, it is OK.
The longest I have towed was 75 miles, a good deal down the motorway.
