Does anyone tow with a Honda CR-V?

Looking to buy one. It's a nice car that I liked driving. It can tow 2 tonnes which is all I need as only ever take 1 horse. I don't tow terribly often maybe max twice per month.
 
Yup and have done for three cars. Mines a 2.2 2015 diesal one, after this they are all "turbo" 1.6 which i would not be comfy towing with, but the 2.2 is totally fine and very eco friendly and a great everyday car too.
 
We tow with a 58 2.2 diesel CRV, we have an IW 505 which is 925 kg and 14.2 cob approx 430 kg so are well under the 2000kg tow limit. Tend to only travel locally but have never had any problems including getting off muddy grass show fields, but it's obviously not as good as land rover for off road. Occasionally have travelled shetland in with cob, 200kg, and didn't notice any difference. The automatics have a lower tow limit and you can still get 2.2 newer ones, not all are 1.6 although the 1.6 I've looked at still had 2000kg tow weight. We get around 44mpg and it's a great car for general use.
 
Guy at the garage did say it wasn't so good off road but the majority of where I tow is car parks. It is a manual and the 2.2. I have a 505 also but a bigger horse. Think I will go for it. I can't be bothered to go hunting round various garages also!

Passengers won't affect towing as they're in the car. In fact, the more weight in the car (as long as you don't exceed the maximum) the better as you always want the tow vehicle to be heavier than the trailer. It's the weight of the trailer that matters. A 570kg cob in, for example, an IW505 (895kg) would be 1465kg - less than 75% of the CRV's towing capacity so nowhere near the limit. Even if your hay and water was also on the trailer you'd be nowhere near the limit. I'm assuming you mean with a B+E licence as a CRV with a GVW of 2200kg would only allow for a trailer with 1300kg on a B and that would require a very lightweight trailer.
 
The seats are awfully uncomfortable for long journeys, I find. This is something I only thought to look up AFTER discovering it - seriously, who thinks to research what the seats are like?

It seems to be a common, well-known problem discussed on car forums.

Day to day though, very good - comfy, economical, straightforward. Just be wary of >100 mile trips ;)
 
That's interesting cos I noted I really liked the seat! But that was just a test drive rather than long distance. I don't do long journeys more than once in a blue moon. I'm quite excited now!

I do too! But it was killer on my back the couple of long journeys I did :( But absolutely fine day to day, so I wouldn't worry (just be prepared haha!)

Would recommend it to anyone (aside from that bit). The only thing I regret ever so slightly is now I sometimes want to tow two horses, but I don't think I could afford to run something that would do that. As my only vehicle it's hit all the marks. i.e. I can actually afford to run it, and it feels perfectly safe towing my lad.
 
I used to have a jeep that would tow 2 (and trooper before that) then an xtrail and the difference in fuel consumption is brilliant! My horse travels without the partition so can't take 2 anyway. I have had my fill of giving people lifts and taking to shows so now no longer transport other horses so just my horse to think about 😀
