Am thinking of getting one for this purpose, have done some research and these are the ones I like the best but just want to check what other people think of them and that I'm not making a big mistake before I go for it!

Thanks :)

I do!

I have the 2.7 V6 Petrol (on a 52 plate) in an automatic.

I have a HB505 and a 15.2 TB and you wouldn't know they are attached.

Cheap to insure (for me at 20, compared to other similar vehicles).

No complaints at all.

Can I ask what sort of mpg you get out of it when you are not towing - I looked at one of these but was advised they would not tow more than 2300kg

I will be towing a 511 with a 17.2 DWB inside

about 28mpg.

my trailer and horse come well under 2.3t and I would be surprised if your combination were to go above it!

even up/ down the steepest of hills it feels and sound the same as driving the car alone.

Ok thanks for that, I may have another look at them - I was going towards a Jeep Cherokee as it will tow 3500 but may think again. (Unfortunately) the insurance isn't a problem for me as I am now the wrong side of 55 :(

a friend had a Cherokee and although a great towing car the electrics, mainly the central locking went a bit looney tunes!! and would regularly lock her out/ in/ some doors/ no doors/ windows open/ not close.

Thanks TrickyVicki, that sounds promising :D

Clannad48, I have been doing some research, an ifor 511 weighs 1 tonne and I'd guess your horse is about 650-700kg so still leaves a bit of leeway, the older santa fe's can tow up to 2.2 tonnes, the brand new ones tow up to 2.5. I did look at Jeeps but they seemed to be very gas guzzling, (and more expensive to buy), I am planning on going for a diesel santa fe as they can tow a higher weight and claim to do 38mpg.

My friend tows with an older Santa Fe but then she only tows ponies really. Still, she's had no issues with it at all. I think overall they are decent cars and, if you get a newer one you get the benefit of the longer warranty. Jeeps are notoriously bad fuel economoy wise.
