So I need to upgrade my current old shape freelander for something more powerful for towing. (I tow nearly once a week and I'm worried I'm going to kill it lol.) Currently torn between the new shape freelander 2.2 diesel or a Kia Sorento (no contest I know!) Just wondered if anyone uses a new freelander as a tow car and how they compare to the old one?
I have my B+E so no worries about weights etc.

Will watch this with interest.
I very much like the later Freelanders 2,
Heart says buy, head says run in the opposite direction very quickly!

Freelanders can tow 2000kg so more than a lot of other smaller 4x4s. I've towed one horse with one in the past and I didn't find it a problem. I wasn't towing incredibly regularly with it, just when my OH's defender was unavailable so not sure on long term reliability but would have thought if anything was to be a problem it would be the clutch, so buy an auto if you do get one.

Yes they were discontinued last year Mamalade, and replaced with the Discovery Sport (basically a Freelander by another name).

To be fair to my old freelander it's done more towing than most with not a lot of problems, I wouldn't dare tow 2 with it though and it struggles uphill with my big lad. I love the look of the freelander 2 which are meant to be better but don't know anyone that uses them as a serious tow car.

Not sure about freelander but I would never get an automatic to tow with, manual is better as you have more control/able to choose the gear and manual are normally more straight forward and cheaper to repair the gearbox/clutch if it does need repairing compared to an auto.
