Hiya peeps

As title really... would love any feedback.
My fella is usually in a simple snaffle, however looking for something with a little more poll pressure for hunting..he has a very soft mouth and want to keep it like that- tried him in a Kimblewick and he didn't like it-didn't like the curb- not mad about using anything with loose ring like 3 ring gag etc. So open to ideas! :)

Thanks in advance! :D

Yep. I use a hanging cheek French link sweet metal snaffle in my daughters welsh cob. He was in a French link snaffle when we got him but was just a little to strong for her (she is a very slight now 14 yr old and he is a tank who doesn't know his own strength)

It just gave her the edge she needed to remind him that he did have a rider on top. She found that he is lighter in the hand. Not sure if the sweet metal has much to do with it but I'm a fan of the dropped cheek for sure.

You'll find the hanging cheek has no poll pressure as for poll pressure you need the reins to be fixed to create the "lever", as opposed to them having the full range of the bit ring to move around. A lot of horses prefer the hanging cheek as it holds the bit more stable in the mouth.

I swopped my mare into one having this misconception that it would give poll pressure and very quickly found out there was no poll pressure whatsoever and looking into this online, I very quickly found this was correct. I now have my mare in a myler combination and this is amazing, gives poll pressure plus other areas of pressure and is very mild (obviously any bit is not mild in the wrong hands).

Hope you get sorted soon. x

At home I ride in a full cheek french link and for hunting I use a hanging cheek snaffle - really pleased with it. It just gives me a bit more when we need it but without being severe. Also, I think changing bits just for hunting makes them take a bit more notice of you than the same bit that they are ridden in daily. I would try it out at home first though to make sure the horse is happy with it.

We use the NS baucher for dressage and the horse is really happy in it. We hunt in an NS elevator though! Princess Rosie is right - no poll action in the hanging cheek. You'd need something slotted or where you can fix the rein to create that. A butterfly flip?
