It was easier with (I used aquamax) because the bags are easy to handle and lift, and you can muck out a bit quicker, BUT
It sticks to everything including hooves and legs like a powder and creates a fair bit of dust.
It lets the horse get more mucky when they lay down.
I have gone over to shavings again, to give a fluffier and deeper bed, a slightly cleaner horse and just nicer for them to have a deeper springier bed to lay on, also a bit less dusty and smells nicer when its fresh with shavings.
i use cushionbed, which i think is the same as easy bed - small woodchips.
we have had all our 5 on it for over 12 months. i find it cheaper and better than shavings as it doesn't stick to hooves & tail. less dust and keeps odours down. Recycled materials and decomposes really well.
the bed holds well and gives plenty of support - no rubber mats.
all our liveries use it too and love it. i know it's not everyones cup of tea, but we think its great.
All our yard is on easibed. It takes a bit of adjusting if you're used to shavings, as it's not as absorbent, but I find it a good bedding to use.
It makes a solid bed, and is better if you remove the wet at least once a week, otherwise clean bedding will get dirty fairly quickly.
I skip out every day, and put the bed up once a week to air it.
It's not the best to use with rubber mattings and just a sprinkling of bedding as the wee tends to run out the door or puddle on the mats, but if you have a decent bed (or good drainage!) then it works very well.
I did try it but found it very heavy to muck out the wet bits. Have switched back to Excel - a mix of shavings and dust extracted chopped straw. We have mats as well.
I've used it for just over a week while I was waiting for my rubber matting...now its arrived and I have a very wet base layer to dig out tomorrow so the floor's dry before Sunday - looks like I won't be having a nice long lie on my day off...
I've been using it for 6 - 8 weeks and am sick to the back teeth of it! At first I liked it but it is so absorbent it seems to pick up damp from the air. I also think it's very cold for the horse. I am so fed up with it that after a tele convo today my feed merchant is collecting my unopened bags tomorrow and letting me have straw in exchange.
Just want to agree re Aquamax I had my horse on it for just about a year he got filthy overnight, yes I do muck out each day and he's on rubber matting, but as he has long white socks he ended up with long yellow socks and it was a nightmare to get clean for the summer shows. Also he became very wet on it in the spring and I was using 2 - 2.5 bags a week so got v expensive. Moved back to regular shavings and now have a much cleaner horse. Also can make nice big banks with shavings in the winter so keeping drafts out.
Can't get Hunters at the moment round here though all places just completely sold out, near West London.
