Does anyone use human products on horses?

I have recently been asking for advice on products to use on a pony with sweet itch to stop him itching, which got me thinking..... Would products designed for people for example, E45 creme, sudocrem, tgel shampoo, etc work on him?
Does anyone use human products on their horses and if so what, and what for?
I bet they are cheaper than horsey products too!

I rarely use horse products, I use shampoo, hair gel, hair bobbles, sudacrem, vaseline...pretty much most products are human ones. Cheaper and easier to get too.

All kinds of non-horsey products work on horses. Washing up liquid, baby oil, avon skin so soft, aqueous cream, furniture polish, human shampoo, green soap, etc etc

It is normally cheaper too.

Just be sure to make sure your horse isn't allergic and be careful about harsh products. But my friend's horse is allergic to all kinds of horse shampoo but is fine washed in Fairy!

i always have tubs of sudocreme, sudocreme fixes everything i also use human shampoo and conditioner when bathing, occasionally give them a vinegar bath to bring out the grease, leaves them really shiny too, E45 might work and have also used calomine lotion on itchy horses not a good idea when your showing though because it does make black tails go white and doesnt come out to easy. and old YO used to put human cough medicine in their feeds if they were coughing i personally dont agree with this after being told some stories about coughs that turned out to be something much worse so now call my vet for advice on coughs and wouldnt treat myself even though it was extremly painful paying out over£100 for consultation and ventapalmin :S and she also fed jelly as apparently its good for feet but my 3YO wont eat it she just leaves it in her bowl

also use fairy washing up liquid, furnature polish, fabric conditioner when pip had a reallly long mane before i pulled it, kept it in great ondition and was cheaper than conditioner also use baby oil, but thats becoming more and more of a horse product, vasaline, ear cleaners/cottonbuds when treating thrush to get right down the sides of the frongs and head and shoulders is the best thing for getting white bits white! ohh and shoe polish to cover up small scars

I use Benzyl benzoate for sweet itch - it is used to treat scabies in people. I use sudocream as a sun block for my mares pink nose.

what would you use pile cream for?
I tried the furniture polish but found her tail just became really sticky and yuk.

Marmite feed in a sandwich to stop sweet itch, you need to feed it daily though!

Piriton for hayfever, sedecrem for any sores, vaseline & bonjela for any sores in his mouth, washing up liquid to bath, I'm sure there's tons more but my mind is blank !!

All the time..if its good enough for delicate human skin its good enough for plod. I use chloramphenicol eye drops in the past. Betadine spray, Benzyl Benzoate, hibiscrub, oilatum,sudocreme, vaseline, suncream,hydromol, canesten,hydrogen peroxide etc etc

We did use some piriton once as well.

I use marmite too, nice big dollop in their feeds twice a day, definitely helps with itching!! I also use avon sss, furniture polish, germolene (which is fab for minor cuts and scrapes, numbs the area, antiseptic and keeps flies at bay!), vaseline, leave in conditioner, suncream, fairy (for after clipping), baby shampoo, nappies for poutices, arnica tablets for bumps and bruises and probably loads more, just can't think off the top of my head!!

Sudocrem, Vaseline, morning fresh washing up for bathing brings them out all shiny, E45, baby oil, surgical spirits, bonjela, nappies, baby wipes, sun cream.

My vet told me the other day that pile cream is good for mud fever sores/scabs??

I have heard of people using furniture polish as a mane and tail de-tangler but wouldn't fancy using it on my horse not sure whats in it and if he would have a reaction to it.

I use lots of human products on my mare an its definately alot cheaper!!
Fairy Liquid as shampoo, sudacreme/ savlon / aqueous creme for cuts and skin irritations, i also use aqueous creme as a moisuriser for soles / hoofs, watered down conditioner or childrens detangler as main / tail conditioner (the pear loreal one smells fab!), baby oil mixed with water and a few drops of essential oil (tea tree/lavender) as a mame / tail conditioner or general coat spray to bring up her shine or make her smell nice and less dust attracted to her coat, vaseline and E45 are useful too !!
