does anyone use patio heaters as a solarium?

I don't know how much a patio heater costs, but just to let you know, I paid for a basic solarium/drying lamps £400 at Scope last year, the one with infrared lamps was £600 - from Midland Equestrian.

I know that people do (use the tubes etc) as our YO was on about a few yards that have cottoned onto the idea, apparently they work very well and it saves a fortune.

i have 4 1.3 kw infra red patio heaters in my hot box, wall mounted. they cost £149 for the 4 lamps(ebay shop). work really well i have mine wired througfh a coin slot meter so liveries pay as they go. works well, i just cross tie in middle of stable. i also have the option of having 1, 2,3 or 4 heat lamps on, so for grooming on a cold day i have 1 or 2 on depending on type of horse, and to dry off after washing i have 4 on. works well.

I have some which I think are known as gazebo heaters, found them on ebay about 18 months ago and were from a company on the outskirts of Nottingham. I will have a look and see if I can find pictures/the company for you.

They are infra red, like the patio heaters but are set under a stainless steel canopy that has chain attached at either end for clipping on to the frame of a gazebo to hang them. I bought two, one with two elements in it and the other with one, you could possibly get away with just one of the bigger ones. If my memory serves me correctly I paid about £110 for the two.

Miller: I like your comment from Henk van Bergen.

I was told a similar comment some years ago: the definition of stupidity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.
