my mare is a good doer in summer and a poor doer in winter.
she gets alot of food in winter but always looks a bit too much on the slim side. so was wondering if there was something i could give her so she gets more from her feed but so i don't have to feed her so much, i read about pink powder but would like some opinions on it first :)
in summer she gets one small feed a day with plenty of grazing.
in winter she gets adlib haylege and a big feed twice a day which includes conditioning cubes.
she feels the cold so is also well rugged, so can't be staying slim from using energy to keep warm.
she is hacked 3 times a week in winter (compared to summer when she is ridden 6 times a week schooling and hacking)
she is not stressy in anyway either.
Have you noticed a difference in your horse since using it, or does anyone use something which does a similar job?

Pink Powder is amazing stuff and really helped with my pony's condition. I would say however that if you are feeding the recommended levels of feed then you may be better of using a specific pre/probiotic supplement.

Pink Powder is a powdered Feed Balancer so aswell as containing vits/mins it also contains a pre/probiotic.

If you are feeding a minimal feed like you are in the summer then Pink Powder would be ideal :D

When you say a big feed twice a day how big do you mean? A horse can't digest a huge amount in one feed and so you may be wasting some as it gets pushed through the system undigested.

Have you ever considered feeding vegetable oil in her feed? I had huge problems keeping weight on my horse during the winter but now feed half a small cup of vegetable oil a day in small feeds and he is doing fantastically well on it. His coat has a beautiful shine to it too

I feed Pink Powder to my 20 year old Arab who is difficult to keep condition on and is prone to laminitis, also feed to my 5 year old Setion D - who is a good doer. Both look really well on it. The only feed they have is Alfa A Oil, Hi Fi Lite and soaked hay.

Hi,

I have been struggling to keep weight on my 27 year old TB for the past 4-5 years. This winter I put him on Blue Chip Pro and he looks amazing. I have tried different feeds over the years and it seemed that the summer grass was the only thing that put the weight on but he would soon lose it in the winter despite being kept snuggly warm, fed lots of hay and yummy dinners.

I can really recommend it but you might need to hold on tight when you ride!

she has in winter, a handful of ready grass, 1/2 scoop od honeychop, 1/2scoop of baileys topline and conditioning cubes and 1/2 scoop of sugarbeet.
i will try the oil as that sounds a good idea, see how she goes on that before buying a supplement.
i would love to feed her on blue chip but it a bit too expensive!!
thanks for your comments :)
