As title really, I got my quote from NFU and it's gone up again!!!!! For some reason they think a £10 mutual bounus for my third year using them is a brill advantage

So I have got a new quote from SEIB that is £100 less than NFU :D, but I have never really heard of them so just thought I would ask on here for the good or bad.

Or is there any other insurance companies you would say are good .

Thanks so much :)

I'm with them at the moment. Claimed for a fractured cannon bone over a year ago, they paid no problem. When renewal came through, it had gone up by about £20 a month and the whole leg is now excluded.
Thinking seriously about cancelling, going with BHS for third party, insuring for death only and having a savings account for vets bills (husband doesn't believe it's worth insuring for vets fees).
From what I have read on here over the past few months it seems all insurance is getting very expensive.

I had a field insured by them and it was fine they are the advisory for the BHS etc I think thats how it works etc? But if you like NFU tell them that you have abetter quote as recently I got a better tractor quote elsewhere and NFU told me they didnt want to lose the business so matched it was a saving of over £100. It infuriates me as they should give the best price. But I understand if you want to change, serves them right too.

I believe SEIB are good company. Let us know if you challenge the NFU as there are lots of posts on here about the various companies and who is good etc. V annoying though!

in my experience nfu will not negotiate on horse insurance - they may on other
types. i got a quote for £200 less for car insurance and they couldn't match that. got a quote at 50% less for horse insurance with petplan so planning to move there.

Niddlynoo, my OH thinks the same put money into a savings account and use that.

idie999 I think I will ring NFU and see what they say, will be interesting to talk to them if not then I think I will do what Niddlynoo says. It's just my luck that something would happen to King and he'd a vet for the first time in over three years!!!

Lol, not a chance in hell! Had my horsebox with them for 14 years, made first claim this year after someone decidied to drive into me, writing off 3 other vehicles in the process. Whole process of claiming was extremely stressful and the wrote off my no claims even though 3rd party admitted full liability. Would go with NFU if I could afford it...

Was NFU til last sept but went up over £300, quote was non-negotiable, believe me I tried. They did send a lovely letter sting I'd saved £80 by being with them for 14 years !!!!!!
Changed to SEIB and their quote was about £60 less than NFU before massive hike. Unfortunately I am just about to find out how good they are at paying out. I must say though they have been very knowledgeable when I have spoken to them whereas with the NFU I got the impression that I wasn't always talking to someone 'horsey'.

No problems with them, have claimed twice. They do exclude after you claim for certain things, but I feel that other insurers would do this also.

I am with them and I have made a claim in the past with no problems. But at the end of the day all insurance companies will try to get out of not paying if they can. Devil in the detail.

I have my lorry insured with them and have just recieved my renewal, and was pleasantly suprised to see my premium has actually gone down!

Having said that, I have never claimed so can't comment on their fairness or efficiency.

Been with them over three years, never claimed, but cheapest I could find with good vets fees cover etc. They also took no notice of a prior claim with NFU (who wanted to up my premium by 50% ) so the premium was low.

I'm currently going through a claim with them and I'm not impressed with their underwriting department, they have not even referred my horses case to their in-house vet, vet said he's never had issues like this before with other companies, they have refused 2 referrals for scans, making mistakes on important details regarding treatment given.

I think all insurance companies have there happy and dis-satisfied customers though to be fair.

I'm with them and have been for years I have had two big claims with them and they paid out very quickly .
All insurance will exclude the area once a claim has been made and this includes other insurance companies who did not originally pay the claim.

Have horse and lorry with them and they are brilliant. Had horses with other companies in the past who were useless. SEIB have paid out 3 times on huge claims with an accident prone TB and have been really helpful in advising how best to keep my premium down with hints and tips. Big :D:D:D

I have been with them through numerous horses & claims. Generally a good experience, they paid quickly, & very few queries. Paid out in less than 1 month on substantial final vet fees, euthanasia, cremation costs & full insured value of my last horse, so cannot complain. Insurance gives me peace of mind & I would never be able to save an earmarked amount equivalent to what I have been paid.

Did not like them- horse insured 4 yrs with them made 2 claims they paid out then (long story short) horse ended up in vet school found out wk later had broken leg- they wanted me 2 keep her going over wkd til their vet got involved I refused 2 do so as was cruel & haf her put form they would not pay the 130 cost of drugs & disposal altho they would have paid 5k for op & after care 2 pin the leg??!! Then 5 mths l8r got a letter from them telling me if I had any bills for claim (previous 2 the leg & already closed) 2 send in ASAP cos yr was nearly up- so me v upset & having heated discussion on phone along lines of horse is dead so y would I hav bills 4 her breathing claim that closed 2mths b4 she PTS!

I have always got on fine with seib, I had a minor complaint though when they took money out of my account when they shouldn't have and the manager had quite an attitude about it which I was shocked at seeing as they had taken money they weren't supposed to, on several occasions I felt the staff were unprofessional on the phone.
Other than that the actual insurance cover, claiming process, costs etc I have been really happy with.

I moved from NFU for exactly the same reason to SEIB. I am just about to start a claim with SEIB so will see how I get on! Annoying though because NFU really annoyed me, I gave them about £6k over the years I had my horse insured with them and never claimed - I wish I could have made my claim to them and not SEIB who I've only been with about 7 months and have been really helpful so far!

Been with SEIB for over 20 years. Have all my horses and vehicles with them. Have claimed a few times including 2 horse deaths and a trailer theft. All dealt with quickly and paid out in full. Am seriously thinking of having an emergency credit card and taking BHS Gold as my premiums are seriously expensive insuring 7 horses.

Yep, I got my horse insured, 5 months after getti him he needed an urgent op, £5k operation, then 6 months later my other horse on the same policy fracture her pedal bone and had a 3k op.. Paid out, no questions asked.
