My boy only goes in a lorry as he tries to hang himself in a trailer, and can't afford a lorry, but would like to do some more dressage. My instructor says my boy is good and would get placed and that i should be thinking about competing him as it is a shame not to. I would love to but my only option is to hire someone who does transport in a lorry, but i have always written this off a expensive and a hassle.
Does anyone else do this and what are your views? Should i just be brave and arrange something? Always scared i would bugger the test up and the driver thinking i was a waste of time!

I know people who have used them in the past, but speaking to a guy who does transport for a living he said he no longer transports to shows as it's usually a whole day out for very little money (in comparison to the hours spent). You can hire lorries and trailers though, lorries work out about £100 a day, trailers about £50 a day...

You might just find a transporter who would be willing to take you, then either travel back for you or wait (and bear in mind it will cost you ALOT) so it might be worth phoning round.

There are transporters that do ODE or show packages that would work out quite reasonable considering the amount of time. There are others that would not entertain it due to the fact they can earn more by being on the road rather than hanging about.

I am doing show packages from Cumbria and bearing in mind you have an experienced person with you that would ensure your horse was cared for in the event of you being injured, I think it is worth the extra money.

Ring a few and see.

I don't have transport so often hire someone to take my horse to competitions. The lady is great, really helpful and absolutely lovely. However, I find that you do have to book WAY in advance (especially in summer) and it IS expensive.

This is why I cna only really afford to get him out about once a month. Last time it cost me £90 to go showjumping about 30 mins drive away (they often also charge waiting time). I'd love to get my boy out more but I just can't afford it so whenever we can go to an event, it's a very exciting occasion!
