As the title suggests, I'm wondering if anyone uses trimmers to clip?
I'm only wanting to start off with a bib/very low trace clip to start with, and take off more a little at a time if they need it.
Would some decent trimmers be up to the job? And if so, any recommendations would be much appreciated :)
And if it's a stupid idea, just say! :D

Yep I did a nervous TB mares belly and half a neck with mine. It wasnt idea as it took longer than normal clippers would but they left a nice finish and the mare stayed happy. I have the little blue ones from masterclip and they are really quiet.

My trimmers would happily do a bib clip. BH is such a knobber I end up doing quite a lot of him with them every year to save myself the fight! I have Wahl ones. He isn't overly hairy though (TBxWB) and I try and make sure he's as clean as he can be before I clip.

These are mine http://www.ukcountrystore.co.uk/acatalog/Pro-Series-Clipper.html

My friend did her entire cob with her Lister trimmers the first year she had him but it took her several days and it wasn't the neatest job! He lets her use proper clippers these days thankfully!

Me! We've done 5 trace clips and a full clip with my friends wahl trimmers and their fab!
Only takes about half hour for a perfect trace clip and 1 1/2 hours for the full clip but they all looked normal. They are practically silent too and the ponies love them! I used some 'proper' clippers the other day and was in shock how often the blades are blunt and how the clippers heat up fast and are very very noisey! Definately recommened them for clips!

I have you this exact model to full clip my shettie about 3 times and done several high bib clips on my cob who is very hairy, and the blades lasted forever. Unfortunately they refuse to charge anymore, they went and died on me, but for the price of them I shall definately be buying some more. I have big boy clippers now, but those trimmers are great for running over a growing out clip that needs tidying up.

Mine definitely don't hold as much charge as they used to but I just use them plugged in! Good to know they'll do a hairy as well! If they can clip shettie hair they must be made of stern stuff :D

Thanks everyone :)
I think I'll give trimmers a go, with 2 horses & £20+ to have someone clip them it makes sense - they'll pay for themselves soon enough :D

I have Moser Adelars and they do a bib clip easily, leave a nice finish too! Wouldn't do much more with them purely because it wrecks the blades and i have clippers, i'm sure they would cope with doing more it just takes ages because they're so small! :)
