I don't know if it was the water, my boy (who rarely comes inside because he is huge) LOVES to try and pull up the hearth rug and the corners and a male GSD I used to walk would do the same at our old house.
I think it's just a 'what's under there?' type thing!
Time to get a wood floor down, and buy him a Kong while you're at it, they're cheaper!
he has loads of toys, including a kong, luckily there are horrible beige tiles under the carpet, so they will have to suffice, they are firmly concreted to the floor so he shouldnt be able to rip them up
luckily i have a sense of humour, and can see the funny side, the look on my other dogs face was priceless, she was sat watching the destruction unfold with her head cocked to one side
