I really hope this doesn't class as advertising, if it is then admin please feel free to remove it.

I have just finished uni and want to get more into my photography, so am looking to build up a portfolio over the summer, but need different horses to practice on, as i only have Arabs where my share lives.

So if you are in any of these areas and want some free photos taking then send me a PM:

Rochdale, Bury, Heywood, Bolton, Lostock etc

Or Bradford, preferably near/ off the m606.

If you're nearish any of these places (for example Leeds or Preston etc) and would be willing to pay a bit towards petrol i would still love to come and meet you and your horses and hopefully manage some ok shots.

All i want in return is to be able to use them on websites/ portfolios etc, and will email them to you for free after i have edited them to make them look their best :D

I'm not amazing (hence needing the practice and doing it for free!) but i do get some nice shots so you should have something nice to show for it!

I suppose Derby is too far even with petrol paid?!?!?

Anyway just wanted to say they are some seriously stunning photos, almost too life-like (that sounds odd) like time has completely stood still

Oh no, that's rubbish, i really don't want any money, i might never make any money from photography, and my chosen career will always be Psychology! It's just a hobby, that i'm looking to expand. I'm on a private yard, so a bit isolated from other horse owners in the area (aka sad and lonely lol) and don't show or anything, we're just happy hackers...

I have about 2/3 friends with horses who i am going to go and take some pictures for but then i'm all out!

Did admin explain why or just pull it?

Yeah, sorry it probably is, google informs me it's an hour and a half away, which would be 3 hours after how much i tend to get lost lol ;)

No just got an email saying that I had breached advertising rules, even though I had stated that I clearly did not want any money. I am only training but if you wanted some inspiration check out Tim Flach one word AMAZING!

Oooooh thats a good idea! Also how about sticking an ad up in your local tack shop - bet you'd be innundated :D

Only thing is when I first read the title of your request I thought it sounded dodgy - like people taking pics of horses in order to steal them later on. Might be a good idea to do something to help to prove to people that you're not doing that, (Handng out business cards with your name & address on maybe?) and to make sure you hold insurance yourself (British Grooms Association or BHS insurances might cover you)

Sorry to mention quite a negative thing when you are obviously showcasing great talent (FAB pictures and yes I wish I was nearer!) - just best to protect yourself.
 
Just to say i am in Chorley if that is any good to you... There are 12 horses on the yard so a few to choose from.

Hrm yes i understand that, and if anyone does think it is dodgy, then obviously just stear clear! lol.
The problem is i have no money to put into it at all at the moment, we are just moving to bradford and i don't yet have a job after finishing uni (hence having some spare time to do this!)
There is nothing at all dodgy about it, it would be pretty hard for me to sell their horse just from a photo. Our house in Bradford looks out over a riding school/ livery field, i could take pictures of them all day but don't really because i don't have permission. I do intend to go and ask on there, but that felt more dodgy to me, at least here there is no pressure, people can just move along if they think it sounds dodgy etc.

It's a friendly offer with some mutual benefit... I can't really prove i'm not dodgy, but common sense would say to me that it would be hard for me to sell a horse i don't own when i have no transport. I do understand that point of view, but there's not much i can do to avoid it.

Quite right!

Something- Vista Print can print some cheap business cards something like 250 free for first order. I always take my student card with me as well, that might help!

I also brought a cheap website which I intend to manage myself when I get the time to exhibit the 'good' ones although I'm sure yours are much better!
 
If it takes off then i have had a look at free websites and will make one, at the moment i have a very limited set of photos to use, all being the same 5 horses, so don't think it's worth it. Vista print is the devil!!! I made a calendar for my shares owner for xmas, started off at 9.99 but by the time they added in all the 'extras' which should actually be a standard part of printing, it cost me over £20!!!

Plus, i literally have pretty much nothing in my bank, i seriously cannot be paying for things for something which is not a business. If it picks up at the end of summer and when i get a job in the next few weeks i might buy some business cards, but it doesn't really prove i'm not dodgy lol, anyone could get some printed. Good idea about the student card though! They could probably check with the uni who i was if they wanted to until i graduate in June. :)

I will also maybe ask about putting up a notice at the riding school, that may be a less invasive idea than just going and pestering people lol!

I wish you lived nearer to me as I don't have one picture of my boy ('cept cr*ppy ones on my mobile) and I don't have a camera - I've had him 5 years and worship the ground he trots on :o

Poo! I'm down South too and have a lovely chestnut TB mare who has lots of attitude and is a looker as well. Good luck with your photos, you definitely have talent!
 
Meh... it's south of Manchester lol...

If i'm ever around there (have a habit of getting sucked in to travelling around with OH for his work!) i will try to remember to send you a pm and let you know :)
