I am after a black hunter bridle for my horse. He has a plain face (he is welsh D x hannovarian) and think it'll suit him more than his current bridle.

I'd like one with a shaped or comfort headpiece and quite like the flat padded nosebands as opposed to plain hunter ones, but not sure if this would look too much? I don't want a plain bog standard one - want something a bit different

Have a look at Matty Marlow's site Heritage saddlery. I have bought a lovely bridle with padded head piece from him and it can also be turned into a double bridle as it has a sliphead which you pass through the browband loops on the outside and up and over the headpiece. It is beautiful leather, very supple. www.heritagesaddlery.co.uk

Matty Marlow gets my vote he will make you a bespoke bridal for less then what you will pay for some off the peg. Just don't get his Heritage saddlery confused with the cheapo heritage saddlery. He is based in Stockport. Absolutely fabulous saddles and bridles.

Not sure how much you want to spend but I brought a fantastic James Sterling one a couple of summers back. I'm really happy with it as the leather is lovely and soft and supple despite my lack of time to give it a regular good clean.

None of these are hunter bridles - unless I've got my terminology wrong I mean one with a flat noseband and browband. But need a shaped headpiece as horse has sensitive ears. Have seen one on another horse before that was flat, but still had padding on nose and brown with a nice shaped padded headpiece. Was on a dressage horse, but no idea what brand it was

Sorry probably didn't post very clearly Matty will make what you want even if it isn't listed on his website you would just need to send him a picture and ask for a quote

The links you have posted are of comfort dressage bridles without flashes. Hunter bridles traditionally have flat plain nosebands. Hope this helps.

My links aren't working if that is the case - def plain flat nosebands although second link had a small layer of discreet padding underneath

Thanks for the reminder on what a Hunter bridle is but the OP asked for a Comfort or shaped headpiece and a flat padded noseband. To me that is not a Hunter bridle as they are meant to be plain and workmanlike and more a dressage bridle.

Yes, this is my issue - I like the workman like look of a hunter noseband as could suit his head, but he needs a comfort headpiece as is sensitive with his ears. The two don't seem to coexist. I don't want a raised noseband - it must be flat.

Looks like I am buying two bridles to swap parts around or having one made

Flat and padded are contradicting themselves..The likes of Fylde saddlery will make a bridle to your own spec..

No, padding is flat too so no contradiction. Raised and flat are contradicting themselves.

This for instance is flat but padded -

Unfortunately it is ugly ;)

And this one too -

It is the padded headpiece which is important though - that is the piece I need padded, not so much the nose as it'll be loose and purely for aesthetics

Glad you posted this Zoon as I'd like a new bridle for mine with a padded and shaped comfort headpeice and a flat hunter noseband and browband. Must be brown. I haven't seen many about especially as I don't want to spend big money.

A hunter bridle has a flat single piece of leather along the noseband and browband with no padding, raising or stitching along its length.

Ok, so my terminology is wrong then. Was after a plain hunter, but with comfort headpiece until I saw this other one anyway. But since I can't find what I'm after think ill buy a comfort bridle and separate plain hunter noseband to go with it
