I think my horse loves hacking a bit too much, in order to get on him he has to face the way he would be going on hack, otherwise he just turns around. As soon as I get on him he starts walking up the yard towards the road, and gets a bit annoyed when I turn him the other direction to go to the school.

When on a hack he is so relaxed that I have him on a loose rein all the time, even cantering up our usual "gallop" hill. In the school he spooks at birds in the trees, on a hack he just perks his ears at stuff like that, as if intrigued but not scared.

Anyone else have a horse that loves to hack?

Merlin loves to hack...... just as well as we cant school because of his hock and my inability to concentrate for more than 10 mins!!!!

He likes going out with another horse most and keeps up with anyone......... on his own he is a bit spookier and slower, but always has his ears pricked

Used to have a pony that when we turned for home he would go slower and slower with his ears back..... turn away from home and his ears would prick up and he would go really fast!!!

Pip loves it but always thinks it is the beginning of a driving marathon so gets miffed when he doesnt get to do obstacles! He would go for miles at a strong trot, never spooking.

My daughter's pony loves ALL his work. He always has his ears pricked and a really interested expression on his face.

When she takes him for a hack he can be a bit jumpy but is very interested in everything around him and likes to gaze down driveways and at cows in fields etc.

He's a very "happy" type of pony.

Jake loves to hack. When we have lessons, he tries to pull me in the direction to go for hacks instead. Jake likes to say hello to his adoring public he meets on hacks.

I do not think horses understand why they have to go round and round and round the same arena and not get anywhere. For a horse used to travelling about 30 miles a day, it is not logical.
