Does Danilon 'wear off' (also in Vet)

Give my mare one sachet of Danilon a day to help her Ringbone. I was trying to give it to her in her breakfast so it would be 'working' while she was out in the field, but she gets too antsy about going out and won't eat all her breakfast. If I give it to her in her tea and leave the bowl in her stable it's gone by the morning. I thought Danilon wore off after 12 hours, but someone at the yard told me it has an accumulative effect? Is that correct?
 
I don't know what the actual answer to this but I split between feeds , mine is only on half a day tho now and she gets it in the morning as that's when I feel she is worse from standing in but she is fed before I get there to turnout so the bucket is clean by the time she's ready to go out
 
No it's not true. If the drug is stopped after a long course then the effects can hang around for 2-3 days maximum, but it really only works properly for 10-12 hours. Personally I would try and split the dose morning and evening, or otherwise give it all in the morning.
 
I've just started to ride her again, have struggled the last couple of days though as I seem to have caught my hubbys' man 'flu!! :D Just taking it gently at the moment as she's not 100% but thought she'd be better doing something rather than sat in a field..?
 
Hmm interesting , my girl is sound now on half a day , heart bars going on monday to see if that means we can come off altogether I hate the thought of never being able to ride again but maybe all is not lost :-) thanks
 
Millie's heartbars went on a week and a half ago, I am sure they've made a difference. Millie was diagnosed last Jan, after 2 months off started to school and hack her on Danilon and she was totally sound and came off the Danilon and stayed sound. Bad luck struck and she had sinusitis so wasn't getting any work, then a total hooley up and down the field after a stallion and she went very lame, resulting in winter off for Millie. Fingers crossed with light work she'll get better and better! :)
