Just an idle musing for a sleepy Tuesday afternoon in the office...

Am currently looking for a horse, and a number of people have said 'of course you'll be after a dark bay...'
Why would I be? I mean I have nothing against bays, and will probably end up with one, but is a dark bay particularly desirable?

Actually colour isn't really on my criteria at all although I'm lazy so would rather not have a grey. :D

ha ha I'm not after a dark bay, I'd rather have a chestnut or a coloured or a grey. But I'm having enough trouble just finding a horse so I can't be picky on colour!!!

My golden chestnut mare with 4 very equal white socks looked stunning at shows and really stood out!!! However, the washing of the socks and bandaging them over night etc etc was very time consuming and when I lost her and bought a dark bay I hated the black legs and boring dark body............until I came to my first show!!! Hahaha I only had to blow on her to have her perfectly clean looking.........

Actually I would quite like a dun too, but not holding out much hope. Or a black horse with a pretty white star.
Or a chestnut with black tiger stripes. Yeah now that would be cool :D

Well I have a chestnut, a grey and a dark bay! :p

I don't find much difference between keeping the chestnut and bay clean. The grey is OK, it's really only her tail that gets muckiest (see the yellow bottom half of her tail :( ). I do use a grey horse shampoo and alot of Cowboy Magic if I need her to be super clean! :D

Out of the three, the chestnut is my favourite colour as her coat has a lovely metallic sheen in the sun.

Personally I'd like my next one to be a dark grey. Got a brown horse now and yes it's nice he looks clean but I'm more drawn towards greys so don't really care if they get dirty or not...I'm not hugely bothered about my horses appearance anyway.

Yes I want a bay! lol. I have three chestnuts and each time have not regarded the colour until they got home and someone has said - oh another chestnut lol. They are kown as the 3 amigos :)

I've always loved greys - and I have 3 of them - and would have them again in the future. But I do have one dark bay/brown - so dark he's almost black (see my signature) who I wouldn't change for the world. Greys are notorious for getting dirty, but I agree 100% with Laura1812 who says that dark bays show up the dust. Boy, don't they just do that!!!

Never heard anything about everyone wanting a dark bay though!

Have just bought a dun, and am loving all the peach coloured fluff! Have already got a grey (my third, not all at once, thank goodness!) and altho she's beautiful, I defo wouldn't have another one. In fact, she's going to stud next year, and if she throws a grey, it's for sale, no matter how gorgeous!
The dun does get stains, but they brush/sponge off, and I adore his long black legs already. Waiting for the mane and tail to go fully black as there's still some baby fluff...
I actually walked away from some very nice bays when horse shopping...they can look very nice, but there's so many of them. Just wanted something different, and different my new boy is :D

I have a dun, really sweet with white spots on him too.
A grey who looks dirty all the time.
A chestnut that shines in the summer in the sun, keep him orange by feeding lots of carrots!!!!
AND a DARK BAY, she is lovely and looks the nicest in the sun, really shines, looks the best of the lot when all done up for a show.

having had pretty much every colour horse there is and actually i particularly liked coloured horses and greys i am SO enjoying having a bright bay and a dark brown (think black).

to get ready for shows i simply wipe them over with a baby wipe and they are gleaming! :)

u can see my mare in my signature but some days i wish i had a darker coloured horse but at least when i my horse is clean i know shes clean as i can see it and i think shes more beautiful than any other horse. people always comment that she has nice colouring. i think a dark bay can be boring but people tend to like them and they are definatly fashionable. you can get racism against coloured as well which i thinks stupied as they are still amazing horses and mines definatly not cobby

I adore dark bays! The really dappley shiney ones with the tan muzzles. It is my favourite colour.

I have a Blagdon and White Gypsy cob. He is a filthy little wotsit. I will definitely be going for a dark bay next time.

When I browse the sales listings on H&H I always filter to 100% dark bays lol!
