Does everyone want a dark bay?

I have a dapple grey gelding, a dun gelding, coloured mare and a dark bay mare. I love my dark bay mare she's stunning and coat just gleams

Bay was always my least favourite colour as I thought it was to common and boring and I always favoured greys and coloured.

That was until I got Tiger Lily, my welsh cob Filly who doens't even have a white sock.
I am bays all the way now, she looks so clean even when actually dirty lol.

I think I've come to the conclusion I'd rather spend my time riding and doing other stuff than constantly battling to keep my horse clean.

My coloured is about 80% white, he's murder to keep clean and my daughters pony being light grey is equally bad, I dont think I realised just how much time we spent keeping her pony clean until I got Tiger Lily.

I dont even want white socks ever again lol x

The trouble with lovely dapple greys is that they go white quickly!

I like red tones - so bright bay is my fave, and bright chestnut too - both shine like copper in the summer, and are easy to keep clean, without being dark enough to show dust/dandruff.

My personal preference is anything with different manes and tails - duns and palominos in ponies, bright bays, and really dark dapples with white manes and tails.

Despite being more work to keep clean, the skewbald and grey always do better in turnout competitions - they do look eye catching when they're really clean, and stand out.

Sorry guys, but dark bays are my least fave.

Just an idle musing for a sleepy Tuesday afternoon in the office...

Am currently looking for a horse, and a number of people have said 'of course you'll be after a dark bay...'
Why would I be? I mean I have nothing against bays, and will probably end up with one, but is a dark bay particularly desirable?

Actually colour isn't really on my criteria at all although I'm lazy so would rather not have a grey. :D

I hope that your Boss discovers you on social networking sites during working hours and sacks you! Oh and you have told us how lazy you are in your choice of colour, so is that indicative of how you approach life normally? I am very hard working (have to be to support my family and horses) I have a chestnut, grey, light bay, and dark bay, they also work hard for me too - albiet as a childs pony or a racehorse.
One or two are for sale, but would not sell to you, as you might not be able to drag yourself out to feed them......

I'm not a fan of Bay's especially boring dark bay they just don't do it for me. I do like bright bay with black points and white socks and I could be persuaded to have one of those. lol

I love Liver chestnut and that's why I own one. Vet said to me whilst waiting for Fern's X Ray results. You can't get a shine like you can on a liver chestnut can you. lol Fern was gleaming like a mirror.

Don't think I could ever own a grey or a coloured with lots of white on. Too much hard work.

Er I was going to say that was a bit harsh, but then I reread my post and yes, I do mention being idle, sleepy and lazy all in one go so fair enough.
Just for the record though, the reason I am sleepy is that I get up at 5am each day to muck out 6 horses and ride 2 in order to finance my own two horses before going to my full time office job (which pays the mortgage and the rest of the bills). I then will ride one more after work, and then I have to go to the gym because sitting on my bum all day in an office makes me fat.
I am also half way through a course to become a personal trainer and am training for a marathon.

So I don't think I am lazy, I'd just rather spend the time I have with my horses riding them rather than scraping off layers of mud!

Didn't mean to get defensive, but that struck a bit of a chord! (although comments about being on HHO during work time are true... can't be the only one though!)

Have a weakness for greys, BUT my main boy is bay and god, is it nice - esp with those early show mornings......

Still go weak at the knees for a good, clean gray though (prehaps because i appreciate the work that goes in to them!!!).,

Thank-you for your good humoured reply - it is tough doing these nags and holding down a job to pay for them - I suppose I was a bit harsh, but as one who has not been able to take all of their leave entitlement this year (9 days owed) and get up at the crack of sparrows to ride, and have 4 kids..and being in the pubic sector who are having such a bad press, then I thought I needed to make a comment. Out of interest my employer blocks social networking sites, so I can only access from home PC - that probably does not include H&H Forum - but sadly, I would be too busy to access anyway.
But I do recognise that my post was a wee bit direct, and was glad to get your measured response.

Oh good, you came back. That's no problem :)
I did keep saying I was a lazybones and now consider myself chastised for wasting work time on here.
However, I am most intrigued by your work in the pubic sector!
Hope you get your overdue leave soon.

Yes sorry it was a bit delayed - my laptop battery died. Yes want to use my leave to qualify my nags in the hunting field - I Can tell you that, that does not go down well in the PC public sector - I do economic devt so am all about trying to help businesses. Once again apols for the rant - you caught a raw nerve, especially in the light of our wonderful Coalition Govt wanting to increase Univ fees today.......Whilst i freely admit my response was very personal to you - it was a far wider rant really! Good luck with you and yours.
DK xx

I have two bays, not dark though, good old fashioned blood bays. Bought only because they ticked the boxes certainly not for their colour. Give me something with four whites and either yellow or paint anyday.
