Does half an inch on a bit make much difference?

I'm trying to get my mare used to a bit again, she's a size 4 1/2 but the bit rings are enormous and it's quite thin. Plus ive bought her a bridle (small pony sized!) and because the bit rings are so big the bridle doesn't fit  she's got such a little thin face! I have another bit for my other pony which is 5 inches but has smaller bit rings so could use it?

Yep, does make a big difference, I wouldn't use it myself. Could you get a bradoon so the rings are smaller and so are in better proportion to her face?

You'd have to try it on and see. It might catch the teeth.

I agree with the bradoon idea. The rings are much smaller.

For the sake of a few quid, I'd just buy one that fits correctly.

Yes 1/2 an inch makes lots of difference! A 5" bit sounds very big to me for what I'm guessing is a little pony, (my 16hh mare is in a 5" 1/4 bit!) so no I would not use it. Maybe you could sell or part exchange for a new bit, or borrow one off someone?

Agree with the above 1/2" makes huge difference, it may slop about more, especially if the rings are large, but I would try it on with bit rings aswell.
Bridoon bit would be my first try, although you can now buy small ring snaffles for the little ones, google them.

Angel7 internet shopping was the problem in the first place! The bit rings were normal sized in the picture, turned up and I could probably put it over a mug with room to spare!! :( she's got such a teeny little face they reach halfway to her eyes
