after having a few difficult months with my horse, think haylage mite be playing a part in i!! found out he's never had haylage before (not had him too long) and also found out our haylage at the mo is a rich red clover type? does it really make horses very fizzy? i know every horse is different. anyone else had problems feeding it?

some haylage is higher in sugars than hay, some isn't. It depends when it was baled and how long it has been baled for. Sometimes haylage can be lower in sugars than hay as the microbes use the sugar as 'food'. To get the best idea of whether its the haylage - get it analysed, all feed companies should offer this service, and its not too expensive

Bit like giving my hyper daughter a large bag of Haribo Star Mix she thanks me so much at the time but then spends about a day on the ceiling! Sends my mare nuts!

It depends on what type of grass is used (meadow grass is fine not rye grass which is what most haylage is made from) and when it was cut and if it was a first or second cut.

What else are you feeding your horse?

All the horses at my yard are on haylage and none of them are fizzy! Ours isn't very rich and it's more like good hay.
One woman refuses to give it to her horse so we have hay too, but nobody else feeds it.

Farmers haylage in the big blue bales sends mine demented- he's not nice to be around......but 'branded' low-energy haylage like Equilage blue/purple or Horsehage blue/purple is fine......

...but then mine is awkward with cereals/mixes anyway....
