Does how many horses a person has affect how you view them?

As long as all the horses are well cared for I don't see what the problem is with having more than 1 horse

The lady that owns Ellie has 5 on DIY (4 are hers and her OH owns the 5th) and they are all well cared for. Fit as fleas and Ellie does not look like a 29 year old as the pic below shows

Yep deffo some people on the yard got funny with us we moved on there with 2 jay and eska and gradually aqquired more horses to the point of having 6.
Some people were so bitchy about it,but as far as i was concerned aslong as the horses were looked after and exercised what the hell did it matter to anyone else.

The other thing is the amount of gear we have. On livery yards, some people seem to think we shouldn't have three lots of everything and therefore need the space that normally goes with each stable. Why not? We don't get a discount for having more stables lol (I wish!).

Anyway, just a musing

SO true! One locker, three horses - hmm!

It doesn't affect my view of other people - have 1, have 5 if you like.

I imagine it may affect how others see me, currently have two, it could well go up to three, or even four if we breed again - both my son and I ride so i would be looking at a riding horse for each of us and a yougster or two to bring on.

Hey, if a smart car and holidays were important to me I would have made different choices, but they are not. The only person who regularly criticises is my mother, but she will never understand the very concept of keeping horses.

I ahve always just thought people with more than one horse are extremely lucky (either to have the money, time or land to keep them). I just had one horse for years and though I always wanted a second i never thought i'd be able to afford it. Then one day i was offered a second horse for free and actually since I've had him I have managed to pay less to keep my two horses than i did when i just had one (mainly due to keeping them at work, being very lucky etc). All my friends think I must spend all my money on horses but actually they don't cost me that much at all (will soon as i am moving one to proper livery but oh well). To be honest there's nothing i'd rather do than spend time (and if nessecary money) on my horses so it doesn't really bother me what other people think.

I think if someone has more than one horse on full livery I would presume that they were rich other that that I don't really think about it!.

If anything happened to number 1 pony and he had to be retired I would buy another pony to ride but fingers crossed as he is only 6 that won't happen for a long time. I would not want two ridden ponies though as I don't have the time to ride two and I don't see the point in having more than one ridden one unless one of them can't do all that you want to do.

I certainly would not expect a person with more than one horse to have less storage space unless some of the horses were not ridden and had no tack. Each horse would still need rugs and feed and grooming kit etc. After all unless you are getting a discount for having more than one horse then you are paying for the same allocation of space as a one horse person.

As for the time aspect it is really none of my business how other liveries spend their time or if they pay staff to help look after their horses.
