Does mosquito larvae in the water trough harm the horses?

Question 1 of 'something I've always wondered and been too scared to ask!!'

Do the larvae die in the horses' gut or survive and hatch in the poo?

Any larvae ingested would die in the stomach. However, mosquito larvae are a sign that the water needs cleaning and they should not be encouraged as they carry diseases from host to host.
