Does my bottom look fat in this?

Does anyone have any advice on the following;
I have a Section A which is just about to turn 4 at the end of June. A few weeks ago I put him on top line nuts and increased his grass intake to put weight on as he was in need of covering for this season's shows (he's not fat in any way). The fat has settled right on top of his bottom and as his tail set is still quite low there is a gap which looks like a step in between the 2. His breeder confirmed there is nothing unusual from either dam or sire and has bred many ponies from both. I'm now strapping but was wondering if anyone else has encountered this and what to do to disperse the fat evenly (if not strapping)?? All ideas gratefully received.

I would consider your horses welfare and the risk of causing Laminitis by trying to increase his weight at this time of the year.

Yes thank you I am well aware of the risks of laminitus but this pony has never been fat at all and is not fat now, hence the only reason why he was put on top line nuts and grass. If anything, even now he is underweight and has a prominent wither and is only in a medium fit saddle. No table top back here!

There is a show pony on my yard (not fat either!) who has fat deposits on her hindquarters, which sounds similar to your pony. Unfortunately, as far as I know the owner hasn't been able to shift them in the 6 months she's had the pony

Hmm since the area in question is pretty much a muscle free zone (if I'm imagining the are correctly - area directly above tail?) then strapping is unlikely to help. I don't think it possible to disperse fat by strapping or loads of humans would have cottoned on to it by now!!
We only have one 'lumpy' pony and that is a fat old brood mare and have never bothered trying to get rids of lumps though they do disappear on the rare occassions she loses any weight.
