Just a quick update on my bargain little girl for you all. plus a few questions. Excuse the haircut, I know its not right a haffy without a mane/tail but it was necessary but she will have a full mane/tail once its grown back, she wont be hogged again.
is it me or does she look like shes got a huuuge head?

a few people commented that she didnt look very happy when I agreed to buy her, does she look any happier now?
How do you think shes looking?
ive never owed a Hafflinger - what do you think to her condition?
her skin seems to be very greasy so when the weather eventually picks up she will have another bath, but seems a long way off atm but she is going to start on Feedmarks Equidermis now it has arrived so hopefully that will make a difference.

Although shes bottom of the herd shes palled up with my big mare who is herd leader (she regularly kicks Aspen off her tea when she thinks shes got better tea than her) and my youngster and now enjoys a good run round the field with her friends (lovely movement) rather than being chased about.

cant wait to sit on her in the spring, hoping she lives up to her rep of being a fantastic easy ride.
when I first saw her/the day before I picked her up:

What a lovely looking girl! And what a lot of snow!!!
Love the last pic where they are all on their own feeds, how did you manage that??
She looks very well, you should be thrilled!

thank you ruthnmeg, was a quick thing with them, drop the feeds a fair distance away and for once the big girl (the one right at the back with her backside to the camera) decided she liked her tea so didnt kick the other off their teas. Shem they are all facing the camera - will have to try for that one next time.

yeah weve got tonnes of the damn white stuff. its doing my head in, and im sure every time I go down to the yard its multiplied! its snowed today, all day yesterday

No she looks very happy to me.
I have a haffy and if shes anything like my boy you will have sooo much fun. In the summer there coats, blonde mane and tails look gorgeous. They are a great breed!!

Hope you have lots of fun together!!!!

cheers ww, wierd story tbh. i got talking to my friend who said she was up for sale but had decided to give her away free to good home. id joked that id take her so she said get my a halter and ill fetch her over. Went back a few hours later and said that id have he so took her the following morning. I felt awful not giving her anything for her, and just felt that i would be happier giving her a small payment just in case anything came up in the future re ownership problem, so I paid £5 - so bargain pony.
She was used in a trekking centre but has a skin problem which had made her a bit unmanageable as she was so sore and would rub on anything she could find - was a toss up on here whether it was sweet itch or rain scald - although theres 2 vets that have given opposite diagnosis about sweet itch. So she was costing them money to keep but not making any money in return.
theyd tried everything but nothing seemed to work long term.
i found 2 huge old saddle sore mark - you can see 1 of them on the 2nd pic. But shes getting better, I can stroke her and groom her now, and the scabs are slowly coming out of her fur. Im thinking a rug might be all she really needs to help her.
Hoping that another bath and a good scrub up will help

is your lad a bolshy bugger? i can tell she has a tendency to try an push her boundaries to see if i let her get away with things, but ive heard that is def a Haffy trait? (yeah i know all horse do this to an extent)
cant wait to see her summer coat

No... sadly the snow has hindered us picking him up - and now the sale has fallen through - long story - pretty gutted -but nothing much I can do

thanks JoBo, was hoping youd reply (i know you havent got a haffy but youve got a fjord:) )
do you think shes underweight for a haffy?
i know shes lost her belly and tbh shes eating far more than she had access to previous.
shes currently in a field and the 5 of them have access to 3 large round bales atm plus any grass they can find under all that snow.

oh no thats awful news, im so sorry to hear that, cant believe the sale has fallen through, id be
mad.gif

you know if you ever want to ride you can come up and ride one of mine - actually i need a rider for one of my girls if you ever fancy it (mums trying to get me to loan her out but for them only to ride when i do

thanks shes lovely. ive missed ponies, love riding my mums its great fun but im hoping shes going to be my play pony.
best thing is, ive never gone looking for any of my horses theyve always found me - she wouldntve been on my list to buy has i been looking

Oh yes afraid so, he would never hurt anyone (kick bit etc..) but if he thinks that bit of grass looks tasty he won't think twice about dragging you over there! I dont know if this is the same with them all but he has a very big character and is always up to something, sometimes hes more like looking after a child as he always want the attention and you have to be 1 step ahead of him as if you leave a door gate open just a crake hes there and out before you can blink!! They are very inteligent (sp) but I wouldnt change him for the world!!

That’s ok, well Haffys and Fjords are very similar! Well she is lighter then Badger, but then Badger is a bit of a chunkier build, so no I don’t think she is underweight, she is just nice. But I wouldn’t let her lose anymore is she was mine.
I really do love her!

ohmigod you paid £5 for her!! She looks fantastic. I think with some work/tlc and careful management for her possible sweetitch you may have a bargain on your hands. You could look at getting the injection for her which I think costs £1000 (my old mare had it with her previous owner so dont know much about it except that she never itched again!) and even then she will be great. Do you know much about her - age, history?

cheers JoBo, glad she doesnt look underweight (though glad shes lost the belly

)
hoping that she maintains this weight throughout the summer, but builds muscle, dont think shes been ridden more than 3 times last year.

yep ive heard exactly the same about them! and yes she sounds the same as your boy! shes got a permanent mischievous look on her face. tonight she was running up and down like a fool trying to get her friends to leave their carrots and join her, but they wouldnt so came over for a cuddle lol. then ran off when she realised her friends were making an appearance lol

yep £5 - even if she never comes sound to ride (not that shes lames just mental issues around tacking up etc as she obviously reverts back to her pain probs)
my vet doesnt think the injections will work but has recommended maleseb (think this is a shampoo) and then a liquid to feed (cant remember the name think it begins with a c) however a vet from the same practice doesnt believe its sweetich and neither think that skin scarpes are worth it.

My saddler and a few good friends think its more rain scald.
its so strange to look at - this is when she was clipped a couple days after getting her:

yeah know pretty much all about her.

Shes 5 (well 6 in June) shes a fully papered 100% pure bred Austrian hafflinger, who was imported as a youngster (dont know specific age). I dont know much about what her breeding is like as im not up on hafflinger breeding so if you know anything i can give you details on her parents.
My friend has owned her for 2 years prior to me getting her. However where she got her from, she was neglected and starved - presume this was because she was a handful when up to weight etc. this is where i believe the saddle sores have come from as this person (not my friend) doesnt have saddles to fit the horses, just gets given free ones.

Shes stunning! Absolutely gorgeous! I think she definately looks happier now

If you ever get bored of her, post her my way
