Does size matter?

I'm moving to a new yard and everything is great except the size of the winter turnout fields. It's really small strips with just one horse per section. I know I'm lucky as some yards don't get any turnout but I suppose I've been spoilt as I've had my horse on yards with huge fields for them to roam and get shelter etc.

The summer fields are bigger but again still no where near the size of what I'm used to. I suppose I like to see her having a gallop round letting off steam!!

Am I panicing about nothing? As I say everything else seems lovely.

My horse has recently been moved into a small area for turnout with a new horse while he settles in. I feel so sorry for her as she is used to having 3 fields to gallop around in...but I tell myself some yards dont turnout much etc so at least she is out 24/7

I am afraid that size does matter to me!!

I dont like seeing horses restricted into little pens - I think they should be able to socialize and be herd animals as intended.

I know people worry about getting bumps and scrapes etc but i would prefer my horse to be well socialised and happy with the odd bruise!

I suppose the smaller the area the more poached it will become in the winter and then you may not be able to turn out at all!!!!

I would prefer a larger area, but then wouldnt most people, as he spends most if not all of his time in the field.

it matters a lot to me, i'm like bexandspooky i like horses to be in large fields with plenty of company, cause herd animals. just my own personal view. also thas how its been on every yard i've been on so its what i've grown up with.

i could never live without winter turnout

but i do understand that in some circumstances its not possible to have this

Depends on your horse, Daisy has a huge field which she doesn't get to use. I have to pen her into about 1/3 of it at most because she struggles with her weight so most of the field is just wasted on her. In principle though yes, I love having big fields
