does size matter

any other adult pony rider have my problems.
my lad is 12.3 exmore welsh tank we have owned since his birth.
at a local show a person commented that i should get a real horse!!
im 5ft 5 , 10 st. and he has never had any problem with this he is strong and rides like he is still a stalion. we only jump for fun and have had plenty of it over the years.anyone else of the opoinion my native is to small??

I can't see the difference between a pony and a real horse...

they both have four legs, neigh and eat grass

perhaps you should of suggested that their horse gets a real man or woman on its back, then you'd of both of said something pretty stupid.

Nothing wrong with adults riding ponies, as long as they they are doing so comfortably, why should a small adult have to buy a large horse just to fit in.

99% of people have no idea of how much weigh a horse can acctually carry! Thankfully most of the time people underestimate (i know sometimes on Fugly you get fat asses on a tiny but well, another time) A highland is supposed to carry a full red deer stag and shetlands can carry adults!

As long as the pony can carry you comfortably i dont think it matters tbh
Smaller is easier to mount and cheaper to keep, as long as you are both happy keep up the good work

Your pony will be much stronger than many taller horses!

Native ponies were bred to carry adults. (within reason, obviously not an obese person or a 6'6" bloke!)

Atleast your out there having fun and your pony obviously doesn't mind or he'd have you off. Ignore them and carry on. I used to ride a 12hh Sec A and i'm 5ft4.

Well I'm 10 stone and 5ft 3 and my 12.3h NF can carry me for hours, we jump as well, he is very forward going and there's no way a child could ride him.

This kind of attitude really annoys me, i feel its ignorance personally, my girl is on the cusp of a pony and a horse being 14.2h, i have had her since i was 11yrs old and i now 27, i have not outgrown her, i am 5'5-5'6 and weigh *cough* 10st something, that all your getting lol

my girl can manage with me fine doing all sorts, she is 18 now so i take it easy as i want to conserve her joints but i will be buying another pony once she is retired to ride as i love the sturdy native pony types for riding, ignore them i say, it sounds like your pony carries you just fine, these natives can carry alot more than people realise
if people want a bigger horse for themselves then they should go ahead but not all of us want the same, i think some big horses are just beautiful but i love my pony/cobby types for owning personally

Sod the uninformed person at the show! Native ponies are fine to carry adults. I have a 14.3/15hh connie and he carries me fine at 5ft 8 and 10st! I also ride a 13.2 NF so you are fine.

(Rant) That kind of person really gets my goat. At least we can hack out and be safe on our ponies. I know someone poor 5ft 1 person with a 16.3 warmblood thats too scared to take it out of the indoor school.

Some people think that bigger horses/ponies make them look like better riders but how effective can a small adult be on a huge horse? Why do you think it botherred that guy so much he had to comment - do you think he has problems with'size'?

Ignore them. I used to ride a 14.2hh native as an adult for ages, loads of people would comment that I should get a horse. In the end I actually did, however only because at that point I felt it was time as I had outgrown him in other ways.

Just enjoy him, sod what anyone else thinks. Does the Pony Riders Association still exsist?
