After many dramas with my previous horse who i put out on loan last weekend....over the last few weeks i have been browsing all of the horse for sale adverts.....and cant find anything.
Does the following horse exist (this is not a wanted ad as i probably wont be looking to buy for 6 months or so) but i just want to check if i am being unrealistic!
I would be looking for a 15.2ish hh (so would be happy with 15h - 15.3hh)
around 9 or 10 years old.
Forward going but not fizzy or silly or strong, i dont mind the odd spook.
Must not buck, rear, napp, spin, bronc, leap, plunge, reinsnatch, bolt (i have had more than my fair share of that over the last 5 months!)
good in traffic.
good on a fun ride
good to hack alone or in company at the front or back.
good in traffic.
good in the stable.
good at shows as in will walk around calmly. will stand tied to a trailer or lorry with no fuss.
steady jump, no rushing before or after etc.
good xc
im only looking to hack, school at home, do the odd local show as in jumping and a bit of showing for fun and maybe the odd hunter trial.
Just basically a nice, fun all rounder horse that you can take to a show and enjoy and relax on.
And for around the £4000 price mark.

I know it seems like the perfect horse......but it doesnt have to be an eventer, major competition winner, or go to the top....just somethig to enjoy after 5 months of hell!!!

All i seem to see for sale are youngsters, or horses with quirks...so maybe i am being unrealistic in what i am looking for??????
is this the right sort of price for a good all rounder?

(as above....this is not a wanted ad as im not looking to buy for a while....just some advice re my expectations and price)

Hot chocolate with whipped cream, flake and strawberrys all round!!

I would say you may need to search a bit but I think that is a really fair price for what you are looking for.

My boy would have fitted all your criteria (well he is slightly bigger than his advertised 15.3) as well as being a fantastic allround competition horse. He cost well under £2k from well respected sj dealer as he would never have made a top class sj (happy pootling around BN/Dis all day long though) although this was a few years ago now.

They are sought after but they are definitely available.

Yes they do exist!!! I found one as proof and I do exactly what you describe with him.

There is only ONE thing... he's had laminitis over 4 years ago so will always be on weightwatchers but this does mean he's cheap to keep!! :D

Lol! cheap to keep is always good! prev horse was on restricted grazing and lived on freshair so am used to that!!
Im just hopeing that when i look to buy next year (got to wait and save up pennies!) that there will be a bit more about for sale!
If i see one more bloomin 4 or 5 year old advertised as a school master....!!!!

That sounds like a reasonable budget for such a horse and I am sure it exists. The main problem is working your way through all the people who will claim their horse fits your bill, only to be found to be lying through their teeth! Good luck!

ive got a couple of nice mares in at the moment

the bay can be a little bit ears back at you on approach but doesnt do anything

the chestnut is a total saint. even at 5

both do the basics bay is proven hunter and jumps chessie has mainley hacked but does pop small jumps so huge amount of scope to improve them. both well under your budjet

both have spent the past 2 years with an unconfident owner. no hang ups no ifs or buts just good solid easy to so all rounders..

www.equinesalessouthwest.com the site is currently being built so please excuse the not perfect look! ! (never built a website and its a big pest!)

Lol this is what worries me......i will be enlisting the help from my instructor to help me....she will pick a good one if ever anyone will!!
Although she keeps saying that i dont need something perfect....but all i want is an easy life so may have to reminde her of that!! lol!!!

Off topic but your little trak mare is GORGEOUS! If only I had time for another...

I really like her to be honest i was going to keep her for me to play with when my coloured sells but I think im just a bit to heavy for her and she needs another year before being broken properly, shame though. damn mare is so clever aswell she learns everything in one session, i have her to get going and sell but ive had to back off her! kids sit on and wander around the yard she will lead out on a hack alone lead off another horse pop a jump, trot up in hand lunge/long rein what more can u do with a 3yr old!

to be fair I wouldnt let 5yr put you off my mare would tick all your boxes... although not a school master she is so easy to do and has character at 4 she was giving leads to 16 yr old horses past scary things on hacks!

If only i had seen your website and the bit about pigs before.......i would have sent paddy down the very second i had seen it.....i was well and truely sick of going past the ruddy pig at the end of our road either aerbourne, at 100 miles an hour, up on top of the hedge or a combination of all of those!

LOL mummy pig is a huge beast one of my stables looks directley at her so they go in there than I take them to meet her then if really needed I put them in the paddock with her.

we also have 4 babies.. but they are getting fattened for a huge bbq in august.. poor piggies!

surprising though how many people comment on that photo lol.

Lol.....i should have sent paddy to you....he hated sheep, cows, pigs, geese, etc etc!

When i was a kid i had an arab and the people who lived about 1/4 of a mile up the hill from me had a ruddy goose that would chase you up the hill it was really evil, i had to carry a schooling whip to beat the thing off every time i went past! luckily for some reason pharoah wasnt too bothered by it, but every time you went past you would hear a massive honk....then out it would come full pelt flapping and pecking! luckily there was a verge you could canter on!

Yep and No you aren't.

I have one in my paddock, a 15.3 Morgan mare, only 6 though, belongs to my daughter, took me 4 years to find her, not going anywhere for a while yet. :D

I have one two OP but not the right age. He is 31 and drives as well. A star of TV and silver screen he meets all your requirements. Love him.

They certainly do exist. Email me in a few months and i'll tell you whether she is still for sale! ;)
But yes. You should definately find something with your budget! :)

Will do!

Im still very jealous of the photos of your prom by the way......they were amazing!!!! and if its that horse thats for sale does it come with the beautifu dress and your figure??? or it that extra?!?!? :D

Yes it does exist and I have one called George :) ok he is a bit bigger than you are looking for at 16.3, but everything else you put could be a description of George. He was 8 when I bought him 3 years ago and your budget was the same as mine. I was very lucky in that I found him 5miles from home :)

It's the grey and you can have my dress and figure of you want!! Haha I have chunky thighs though just to warn you! :D

Wasn't there an article in H&H about this a couple of weeks back? Something about how all most people want is a properly bombproof yet fun horse.

My mare is like this - very chilled out, takes everything in her stride, just likes to have a good look at anything new and then she's happy. However, her previous owner sold her to me as a 'problem horse' because she very quickly learned she could take the p*** when loading, the result being that they didn't get off the yard for over a year. She can also be a bit nervy when riding out, but just needs a bit of reassurance. She was shipped off to full livery for a bit of schooling, got straight on the box when i went to pick her up, and so far she's been fine.

So one person's problem horse could be your dream horse. I'm sure you'll find something you really like.

I would say yes, but with a couple of provisos:
People lie through their teeth!!! (fab that you can take your instructor with you, another pair of eyes helps and friendly back up helps when you just want to walk away as the sellers have clearly fibbed)!
also, also you can get a total saint of a horse, you aren't looking for a bike so although the horse may be a total legend, that isn't to say that in an unsual circumstance it might not have a bit of a spook or buck, or that is asked (eg) to work in an outline for too long in an exciting area, might have a bit of a snatch of the reins.
I have what you are after (15.3 ish), she was £3k, but she was ver green (but the safest hack you could ever imagine) though is coming along brilliantly. We have had a couple of 'I feel really well' silly little spooks, but generally she is just legendary and wouldn't hurt a fly!
You will have to hunt for a while and call up alot of people to investigate what their ad really means, and you will have to walk away from the liars, but I'm sure you'll find the perfect horse! You might poss have to give on something like age though as when I was looking I found it was quite an uncommon age for sale as if the horses are that good and that age, then they are often kept!

Yeah good point about horses that age being kept if they are that good.
Lol i dont mind spooks, or the odd excited buck (providing its not the head between front legs type that i have been subjected too over the last 5 months lol!)
I have been riding for 16 years, and on all sorts so im not a novice etc. But after my last horse who i put out on loan at the weekend because i had had enough of broncing, leaping, napping, rearing, bucking, spinning, plunging, rein snatching, constant messing around, etc i just want an uncomplicated ride on which i can have some fun and just be able to go for a fun hack and do a couple of showing/jumping classes at the local show etc!
After the fun ride from hell that ended in concussion, permanat scars etc i realised that i dont bounce very well any more....!! shame as my horse was a lovely jumping pony but unless you were cantering or jumping he was a nightmare!
the age is not critical, i just want something that has done a bit of everything, that doesnt mess about all of the time and that when you get to the yard you know what to expect!!!
