Reading the "100% as described" and the "which vices are a no-no" threads has got me thinking about whether the perfect horse exists. I'm pretty cynical and don't think it does - in the same way that there's no such thing as the perfect person.
Monty, my share horse is seen by most people who see him out and about as 'Mr Perfect'. He's chilled as anything at the trailer, goes in to the ring or onto the XC course and performs very consistently, then goes back to the trailer and back to sleep. He's very talented, very genuine, a dream to handle and a gentle giant. His owner's kids have been leading him in from the field since they were 3 or 4 and he's 17hh! He lets the chickens and dogs share his feed and has been known to share his bed with the farm cat.
He's the closest thing I've had to perfect but even he has his faults. He's vile to other horses, isn't 100% in traffic, can be lazy, especially in the school if he's been in there a lot, (and by a lot I mean more than twice a week!) is prone to the odd buck out on a hack and can spook for Britain.
So does anybody have a perfect horse?
