I want a completely straw or hay chaff. Nothing else and not Alfalfa. I've been looking but cant find anything! It's all either got mollasses, or alfalfa :(

We got some hay chaff from a local store - but we have to ask for it and they order it in.

Fast Fibre is similar in sloppy form.

I believe Pure Feeds do an oat straw chaff.

I think if we demand it more, it will become more available.

She's on fast fibre all ready but its so sloppy that she gets it all over her face and then gets it all on me lol, so I'm wanting something to mix in with it. I'll take a look at the pure feeds one :) And I'll ask my local feed merchant if they can get anything in

I use Just Chop which is hay/straw mix and can get hold of it easily from my local feed mill. Before they switched to this they did their own hay chaff. All the local places looked at me like I was loopy when I asked for a plain straw chaff LOL

Edited to add for those of you that can't get hold of plain chop locally - Halleys Feeds in Scotland do a plain Timothy chop, it is a bit more expensive than I am paying locally for Just chop but the price includes delivery and they'll deliver all over the country. I've found their customer service fantastic :D - After a request to look at providing a hay/straw mixed block they are actually going to do it! And they are also going to get mineral analysis done.

My boy was Barley & Alfalfa intolerant here is guidance direct from a 2 big feed companies:

Dodson and Horrell Nutritional Helpline
The feeds that you may be interested in that do not contain Alfalfa or Barley are:
High Fibre Nuts
Pasture Cubes
Staypower Cubes
Everyday Chaff contains oat straw and molasses. Just Grass, which is currently in short supply is rye grass, fescue and timmothy

Mollichaff
The following products do not contain alfalfa or barley:
Mollichaff Original
Mollichaff Extra
Mollichaff Herbal
Mollichaff AppleChaff
Mollichaff ShowShine
Mollichaff Calmer

Personally I went for Mollichaff Calmer with Allen & Page Calm & Condition and no more hives and itchy and the horse looks great and behaves relatively sensibly!!!

As for molasses bit from their website:
"Our specialist chaff range has five tasty options and is made from top quality oat and wheat straws, alfalfa and dried grass. It is dust-extracted, chopped and lightly dressed with a unique low sugar coating, using a special process that covers every part of the chaff evenly to make it very palatable.

This gives our chaffs an open texture, unlike heavily molassed chaffs which can be sticky and lumpy."

Send them an email if in doubt they were prompt to reply to me!!!
