Our dressage test at Monmouth BE (Pre Novice test 112)
I thought this was a pretty harsh mark!
Opinions?
I know his outline is varying in some places, but I watched some other tests in my section which were much worse than mine & they got better marks!!
Sorry if that sounds mean..I'm slightly annoyed

I'm afraid BE dressage scoring is a bit of a mystery to me but i thought that was a respectable test!

my only comments would be that the horse looks a little stiff on the turns and needs to bend more and that your reins tend to get a little long in places.

I would certainly not be disappointed with it!!

Remember dressage is an objective sport and some judges just dont like certain horses! I have certainly met judges before that dont like coloureds and even if they behave perfectly they'll get chucked right down the marks!!!

It sucks but that's why i like jumping!!

Prob best not to print the judges name on open forum but whoever they were I think they were having a stingy day.
There were a lot more marks you could have picked up but I'd have put that around the 40 mark (60%)
 
you did an awful lot of the trot work on the incorrect trot diagonal. I would say the judge had picked up on that for starters.

I can't watch the vid at work, but it makes no difference which diagonal you are from a gaining marks point of view as the judge will not mark you down for it. Being on the wrong diagonal may affect balance and suppleness, and may make it more difficult to give precise aids, but it is not a fault in itself.
 
I agree.I think the judge was a bit harsh. Looked like a pretty consistent and accurate test to me although I know nothing about dressage scoring...
 
I apologise for that - I am VERY rarely on the wrong diagonal in trot, anyone would tell you that, my mum is an instructor!!
But it isn't in the marking scheme..
I agree about the suppleness & bend which was rather lacking - especially in the serpentines..
 
I also agree that the diagonal isn't in the marking scheme - BUT the question was around why the judge had given such a low mark and someone else had already suggested the colour of the horse (and that isn't in the marking scheme either !) - however I do feel that a judge could have been influenced by that - particularly as bits of the test involved changes of bend right in the line of sight of the judge - over the CL - where you would expect the movement to show use of the correct aids. It would also have an impact on the collective marks.

Even if it only made the judge knock one point off per movement (rightly or wrongly) that's a lot of points.

Suppleness is also in the collective marks.

Perhaps make a note of the name of this judge and see if you get a similar marking down the next time you ride a test in front of him/her.
 
Looked pretty good to me!! Just blame it on Judges PMT!!! I assume that you have rechecked that the test was added up correctly..... I did a ODE about three years ago and was thrilled to be running first.... clear in the SJ but sadly eliminated at the water XC..... Just as well as in all fairness my test had been added up badly and I had 10 extra points in there!!!! I would not have been and certainly did not deserve to be first in my section otherwise!!!
 
Who knows what goes on in dressage judges minds?! I did 2 tests the other day on 2 totally different horses. One horse I thought did a nice enough test, the other horse was dreadful (strong as hell, stroppy, not accurate etc.) yet ended up on equal scores...

My theory tends to work - if you think you did a good test, you'll get a crap mark and vice versa!
